Developer Xaviant has announced that The Culling II is in the process of being taken down from digital store fronts on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, following an unsuccessful release for the battle royale title only last week. Consequently, the studio behind the game has been looking into how it can move forward and secure its future.

The answer is apparently what a lot of The Culling's audience has been suggesting, and that's rolling back the first game to 'day one', when it was at its most popular. "We realised that we changed too much too fast," says Xaviant's Director of Operations Josh Van Veld in the video message below.

"There was something unique and very special about the personality of that game, that we were too eager to modify, to balance, to re-tune, so we took a game that you guys loved and we changed it out from under you and I want to apologise for that," Van Veld added.

You can hear the rest from Van Veld in the video below, while in the meantime anyone who bought The Culling II, should be receiving a refund at some point. The day one version of The Culling (originally launched in March 2016) will be coming to test servers on PC this week, before presumably heading to consoles at a later date.
