Good Shepherd Entertainment and indie outfit CreativeForge Games have announced that Phantom Doctrine has been delayed slightly on Xbox One, pushing the Cold War thriller to later in the month. Originally, the game had been announced for release on 14th August, and although it launched for PS4 and PC on that date, the Xbox One version didn't receive approval in time.

Now, however, the Xbox One version of the turn-based tactical espionage title has been officially approved and tagged with a new release date. Set at the height of the Cold War, Phantom Doctrine sees you playing as leader of a covert organisation, tasked with fighting a global conspiracy, while operating from the shadows against "overwhelming odds".

You'll train your agents, investigate new leads, research new tech at your HQ, then set about infiltrating enemy facilities, uncovering dastardly schemes, and neutralising their assets through stealth or sheer brute force, across a 40-hour single-player campaign. You can play as either a KGB counterintelligence operative or renegade CIA commando, with completion unlocking a New Game Plus mode that adds additional story content.

There's even a 1v1 multiplayer mode. Phantom Doctrine will now be coming to Xbox One on 24th August. Check out the launch trailer below.

  • As long as we're still getting it, I'm happy. Its been getting rather good reviews all things considered, and I need my XCOM fix.
