New Post-Apocalyptic Far Cry Game Teased For Game Awards Reveal

Ubisoft has unexpectedly released a teaser video for an upcoming new Far Cry game, seemingly set after the events of Far Cry 5. In what looks to be the same setting as the last game, the teaser opens with a nuclear blast, giving rise to a new world reclaimed by nature, all blooming flowers and verdant grasslands.

However, this being a Far Cry game, all is not well, and it looks like you'll be cobbling together makeshift weapons like the circular sawblade-launching crossbow shown in the video. Is Far Cry going down a Fallout route for its next outing then? It certainly looks that way. Sort of.

Far Cry 5 launched earlier this year, so while it might seem too soon for the next chapter in the series, if the new game takes place within the same Hope County map, albeit with a post-apocalyptic twist, it would explain the relatively short development cycle.

Whatever the case, Ubisoft will be revealing its new Far Cry game at The Game Awards tomorrow night, 6th December. We'll be bringing you the news as it happens, so keep it locked here.

  • Far Cry 76?
  • @1 ouch, lets hope not, thinking maybe like blood dragon was to far cry 3
  • Could just be an extra expansion...
  • Only thing thata good about these game awards are the devs and game announcements and showcases the awards themselves i swear are rigged theres no way some of the games that win make sense i still enjoy watching every year though
  • Far Cry : Aftermath
  • hopefully isnt a new full release as i don't think i can be bothered with another mainline game this close after far cry 5.
  • I just want a Blood Dragon sequel. FC5 takes place after "The apocalypse has had an apocalypse." In Rex Power Colts 2007 future. So this could be that but I'm sure I'm up for disappointment. Guys wearing Rex's colors and fingerless gloves... voiceover is likely the Sarah Connor to Colts T-800 ala T2. I'm dreaming.
  • @6 well strap in because this looks like its taking place after the “canon” ending of FC5. I was hoping we would get to see the aftermath of the FC5 cliffhanger ending and it looks like I wont be disappointed. Looking forward to seeing more in this.
  • No thanks
  • This is probably more in line with Far Cry Primal in design. Primal had the same map as 4, just a different time period. Whatever this is will use the same map as 5, but with the post apocalyptic skin.
  • I wonder if this is a sequel to the last one... after all (spoilers) the last one ended with a nuke going off and above we see farms and mountains like in the last game.
  • I'm intrigued by this, but why in the hell did Ubisoft spoil the surprise reveal a day before the game awards?! That's like a movie director going on twitter the day before their movie is out & spoiling a big surprise or cameo. It's one thing if it was a retailer leak spilling the beans, like Walmart Canada with Rage 2, but the publishers/devs themselves, that's just ridiculous to me.
  • Far Cry 5 was the only game in the series I did not like. Didn’t like the setting, story or especially the characters. Just not my cup of tea. Pretty graphics though.
  • Will this Far Out game bring this series the way Saints Row went? Hope not. Just Cause and Far Cry are games I enjoy going back to from time to time.
  • Hmm not sure what to make of this seeings how FC5 just released the last of its DLC not that long ago. Looks interesting but I think number 2 is right this will be a companion game to FC5 the same way Blood Dragon was to FC3.
  • God fingers crossed for a Blood Dragon sequel, even if it isn't a Fallout-esque Far Cry game sounds fun too. Sure beats Fallout 76 anyway.
  • I think I'm the only one who did't like blood dragon, yeah it was funny for the first 20 mins but other than that the game was pretty boring.
  • Spoilers- When you think about it, both endings in Far Cry 5 would be canon. What would you think happens after the song plays in the vehicle. No matter what the choice is, everyone else dies. Joseph Seed would have captured you again, put us both inside the bunker and detonated the bombs. #TogetherForever
  • @17 That's understandable the reason most people loved it was it was filled to the brim with pop culture references and parosies. The games plot and atmosphere was basically like a 1980s action movie plus Rex Power Colt was voiced by Michael Biehn who played Kyle Reese in the Terminator. If none of those things appeal to you of course you will find it boring.
