PSA: Final Fantasy XV's Comrades Achievements to be Discontinued Next Week

Final Fantasy XV's multiplayer expansion Comrades released a little over a year ago, and brought with it a set of DLC achievements tied to the main game. In March, an update to Comrades added even more achievements. Unfortunately, all of these are set to expire next week as the Comrades expansion will be removed from Final Fantasy XV and released as a standlone experience.

If you have not begun to work on Comrades yet, you're looking at a total of around 35 hours to complete all the related achievements. A bit of a task in one week's time, but doable if you sacrifice a little sleep here and there. I have written guides for all the achievements, which can be found here. All player progress from the current version inside FFXV will transfer to the standalone release, so for those hoping to rush and finish the current achievements, that will serve double duty as progress toward the new release.

Next Wednesday, December 12th, owners of the current Comrades DLC will be able to download the standalone version at no extra cost, while new players will have to purchase it for $9.99. Once the change happens, all the achievements listed under "DLC: Comrades" and "DLC: Title Update 1.23" in our list here on the site for FFXV will no longer be available to unlock. I would expect a new, full achievement list for the standalone version to appear next week as well.

  • Thats a load of crap. Now ill bever have 100%. That should not be aloud.
  • Wow pretty shady practise, make achs un-obtainable to sell a stand alone release proves they only care bout money. Reminds me of Rambo adding dlc achs and never releasing the dlc
  • this is odd.. i hope they do what warframe did when they removed some content that had achievements tied to it and just make the achievements unlockable in different ways, or.. they could just make it never unlockable and piss everyone on, coz you know.. EVERYONE loves those unobtainables :D
  • Where did you get confirmation that stuff transfers over? You need to cite sources for that kind of information because up to this point Square Enix never commented on it one way or the other. So it looks like speculation on your part.
  • I haven't uninstalled the game yet, even though I'm done with all Comrades achieves. If anyone needs the Kenny Crow achievement and you're missing on person, hit me on live, I'm happy to help.
  • Oh, and achievements don't expire next week, and the expansion won't be removed, they're just taking the servers down for good, but you can still play solo. Let's say you're already pretty strong and all you have left is kill Ifrit and reach 1 million kW, you can do that afterwards, you just won't be able to play with anyone, do the daily, etc. At least that's what everyone I've played with these past few weeks understands.
  • #6 That's incorrect. They're removing the mode entirely from the base FFXV game. All you'll be able to do is look at pictures and make a new avatar. You won't be able to play it at all on the consoles without playing the standalone version. If you have it on PC you can play it as usual since they're not getting a standalone version.
  • thats what happens with multiplayer achievements. always best to knock out the multiplayer achievements first in games that have them and if you actually care about completions, that way this wont be an issue for people.
  • Let's get some game sessions going for those of you that want to wrap up. Personally I need the rest of the sigils and the million electricity.
  • @4: Honestly, there is still a TON of confusion about how this will all work. I have read in multiple places about avatars transferring, but most of the info is traced back to people chatting with SE support. There's a good workup for everything here: https://www.reddit.com/r/FFXV/comments/9vr471/ffxv_comrades_standalone_save_transfer/ @7: This was my understanding as well. I hope Asturgis is correct and things will be business as usual next week, but the way I've read all the press releases seems to indicate you won't be able to play missions at all, even "offline" with AI. One thing I hadn't thought of was the Windows 10 version. While it is not Play Anywhere with crossbuy, it DOES share the same achievement list. So you could play the W10 version to still get the achievements after next week, regardless of what happens with the Xbox version.
  • damn it... i just started playing persona 5 too; but im not going to let this get away from me.
  • @10 Thanks Pants. Yeah I read the same thing. I had similar thoughts about the PC version. I went ahead and did the achievements last month to be safe. But it's definitely something to consider for those that miss the deadline. I'm more interested to see how the achievements will work in the standalone version. It has to have a list since Microsoft won't allow any games to be on the store and not have them unless it's considered a demo like the Captain Spirit game or the later NBA Preludes. And in those cases, they have to be free. The standalone is a paid game and only free if you already own the Comrades expansion. So it should have achievements. I'm just wondering if it'll be a case where we auto pop the completion if we already have the mode done. Based on the reddit info, it seems it won't work that way. Your character and all progress will transfer. But presumably you'll have to redo the requirements. Which will be extremely easy since you can use your end game weapons on a new level 1 character. You'll fly through the game since you'll still have the whole map open, tons of gil, crafting materials and awesome weapons. Plus if you've killed the level 99 variants of Ifrit and Bahamut you can use the two much better starting locations for your new avatar for amazing min max stats. Take all of that with a grain of salt since it's just the way I interpreted the write up combined with speculation and wishful thinking. But I hope it works that way. lol Plus it'd be nice to see new achievements related to the new bosses and possibly hitting the higher level cap. Things like that. Excited to see how this shakes out next week.
  • I actually got all my cheevos offline anyways as multiplayer never worked at least for me.....
  • @13: Same. It's hilarious that this "multiplayer expansion" I never once played with an actual human being.
  • Is it possible to get these achievements in the alloted time frame if you havent even started the game?
  • @15 Yes. It takes between 30 and 40 hours to complete the mp mode. You don't have to play the single player at all to access the mp. So you're good. Assuming you have free time. I finished it in 3 days I believe. 4 at the most. Very easy and fun. :)
  • I love this, when I buy I game I plan to get to, but cause I play literally everything, I don't get around to that game for years and when I finally get to it... they've gone and destroyed it because they assumed no one gave a shit about it anymore... and all that money I spent was for nothing. I really need to stop buying games I don't plan to play right away, cause otherwise it's money down the drain. You can't even trust a game to be around after like a year now? This is fucked up. Man, the number of iOS games I bought that disappeared before I ever had a chance to play them... It's like criminal.
  • I also never got to play with any humans and when I thought I did it ended up being AI for the daily quest. I only managed to clear the Comrades achievements last week. I weirdly enjoyed it even though I spent most of my time watching the load screens and eating a meal after a mission. I kept losing to Ifrit at lvl 57 with Dragon Whisker, Kain's Lance and 2 Honebamis with a decent but not great build. I was using Rampage Sigil and using All Creation move whenever I got the chance. My fire resistance was low so I took a lot of damage. I ended up making a new Honebami and being lazy I upgraded it using Sinister Sharpscales bought from the vendor in Norduscaen Garrison. They are expensive but gave me fire resistance and strength I needed. When I fought Ifrit I took minimal damage even when I got stuck in the lava floor. I like to obtain the full gamer score for a game and at the moment I think the only game I have which I can never do that on is FF11. I expect there to be a few more in the future. I can try and assist those that need help finishing comrades missions. I still haven't finished A Familiar Fright. I am trying to collect all the catalogs/ beat menace dungeons this week.
  • I just bought this game today. Got a physical copy of the royal edition because the deal was too good. Now it won't even arrive in time for me to attempt to rush them. To remove them and create just a standalone is arguably worse than just shutting down the servers
  • Fuck you Square Enix for ruined gamers once again. Goodbye shitty Square Enix. You never actually listen to gamers expect Kingdom Hearts III :P
  • @19 Your reasoning is weird. Removing a mode and making it it's own list with full gamerscore is worse than making unobtainables with no recompense at all. ??? WTF Which is free since you already own it. Okay then. Flawed logic FTW. I understand people being angry in general because of the unobtainables. But I don't understand you saying you'd rather have unobtainables and take the shaft with no option to even play the mode rather than getting unobtainables but a full new list so you can play the game still. This is the best case scenario honestly. We're losing the mode in the base game, but getting the mode as a full game. So we're actually winning here since we ultimately have more gamerscore earning potential for playing the same content. The unobtainables for people that buy the game later sucks. But hopefully they can just buy the Windows version (which shares a list with the One and not losing the mode) and complete it that way in the future.
  • @21 The logic isn't flawed. The point I was trying to make was the idea between ending support, and attempting to remonetize something for no reason.
  • @22 You should have phrased it better. And they aren't re-monetizing it since it's free if you already own it. And the price of the standalone is cheaper than buying the Comrades expansion for the base game. Plus it comes with more gamerscore. The only reason to be annoyed is because of the unobtainables in the base game. And that's only for completionists. And that might very well not be the case since you should be able to get those achievements by playing the Windows 10 version that shares the same list. We won't know that until next week.
  • No, it is shitty remonetizing they're doing. The DLC came and went, and now it's going to be advertised yet again and being reintroduced like it's something new, appearing alongside actual new games. It's basically just being bumped up into relavancy to make more money, without actually doing anything besides shutting this down. I don't agree with the Windows 10 alternative. I don't have Windows 10 and others may not either and don't plan to. I don't agree that everyone should just spring into action to get this done before the end date. A loss of a measly 10 achievements against your gamertag is NOTHING if you're missing like 2000+ achievements. So many gamertags are irreparably fucked and will never get to 99-100% completion percent so stop kidding yourselves with all this securing before shutdown shit.
  • @24: I don't think the W10 alternative is great, especially since the game isn't crossbuy, but it's there for those who want the completion should these become unavailable. Just putting it out there. As for your last point, if you're into leaderboards, especially genre or completion leaderboards like I am, this Gamerscore IS important in that regard. In the overall scheme of life, all Gamerscore is useless and irrelevant, but again - just getting the info out for those who want it. No harm in that.
  • @24 And you say they aren't doing anything new with the game which is false. They're adding in 10 new bosses, new locations, new gear, and other changes. There's plenty of new content there. And for the price of free or half of what you'd have payed currently, it's a good deal. You honestly sound like you just want an excuse to complain. You say you don't care about completion and you say you don't want to make any effort to finish it before shutdown. So why whine?
  • @24: You have just described every rerelease, remaster, "classics", "greatest hits", "ultimate edition", NES mini, Playstation mini... Basically the entire video game/movie/entertainment industry. Happened long before us, will happen long after we're dead.
  • @20: How about the fact many Final Fantasy games are finally being released on Xbox One, breaking a long standing Playstation exclusivity? Maybe, just maybe, SE is listening... If you wanna see it.
  • I wonder if the standalone will function better, the loading times and connection issues, playing with friends was an absolute nightmare. They have an mmo for christ sake how could they fuck it up that badly
  • @17 you literally just said what the solution to that is. don't buy games your not gonna play, i dont know why you would buy a games years in advantage of actually getting round to playing it anyway.
  • @30, The situation @17 speaks of is not that perplexing, really. I get games for my birthday and Christmas, and sometimes I buy games that have deals too good to pass up. As a result, I end up with a backlog greater than free time I have to play them. If you're very busy and can only game a few times a week for just a couple of hours, it can take you years to get to a game. Yes, the best thing to do is to wait to buy a game you know you're going to play upon purchase, but one (at the very least) also expects to always have access to a game you purchased.
  • I'm certainly glad I tackled these, but it is crazy that at how short notice this is. This mode hasn't been out for years or something. Their inability to even TRY to fix the MP connectivity was beyond frustrating. It took hours to get a group of 4 all together, but once we were going it was a great time. very frustrating co-op experience, very boring solo IMO, and I really enjoyed the 3-4 hours I actually experienced with a group. Wasted potential, and why release a standalone to begin with if this was so poorly executed and received.
  • Thanks for the heads up, just went and wrapped the last 2 achievements I needed. Again tho I really hope they make the game more functional and coop friendly. Sort the damn loading screens out. Even on the Xb1x it loads so damn slow
