4J Studios has announced that it will no longer be supporting Minecraft on the old consoles after six long years of providing with all sorts of updates on PlayStation 3, PSVita, Xbox 360 and Wii U.

The announcement was made on the official 4J Studios Twitter account where they shared a photo of the old test kits being packed away, never to be used again. The Nightmare Before Christmas Mash-up Pack was the final update for Minecraft on the old consoles, however, the current-gen versions will continue to be supported for many years to come.

Sad days for those who continued to play Minecraft on the legacy consoles, so savour these moments. Alternatively, you could make the dive to the current-gen version of Minecraft and continue enjoying that mad block world.

  • its had a good run. everything must end though, time to move on.
  • They should keep the 360 on the list since it was us 360 users who made them lots of money.
  • I never really enjoyed this game personally. But there's no denying this game had some of the best support by a dev.
  • Its unprecedented to see/expect a console to continue to receive such unwaivering online support after a decade. I hope there is always a way to connect to Xbox Live on X360 for previously purchased software and updates but I don't think its unreasonable to have to upgrade hardware every 10 years. Usually enough improvements are made its worth it. Minecraft is alive and well on Xbox One. I suppose we shouldn't blindly praise this hardware considering it was Microsoft's plan to keep the X360 relevant through 2015, but at least they kept that promise. I guess it just gives me hope that if they keep up the back compact support through the generations, we won't fall into the nightmare of having to upgrade everY two to four years.
  • The problem as I see it is that if you own Minecraft360, it will never be backward compatible. You have to purchase the game all over again for the x1. I really don't want to purchase the same game twice. Then again, I don't play this much anymore but when I do, I binge. :)
  • Think I will just get through the achievements then and leave it for when i play with the nephews. My friend has it on PC and hopefully crossplay sometime soon which will be fun esp since its only recently he became addicted to it.
  • It sucks. I still play Minecraft: Xbox One edition even with the end of update support. Can't play the newer version since the whole menu layout is really cluttered and lots of lag just to get into a world. Not to mention the in-game currency to buy content from the devs and community. I'll stick with the old and play music while I fight off mobs. Sent via Unofficial XboxAchievements Android App
