This weekend will see Gears of War 4 joining the ranks of Xbox Live Gold's Free Play Days, granting unfettered access to The Coalition's Xbox One debut for several days. It's the perfect time to get up to speed with the new saga, ahead of Kait's mission to save the last remnants of humanity in Gears 5.

Available from Thursday 31st January 12:01am PT until 3rd February 11:59pm PT, the Gears of War 4 Free Play Days features the single-player campaign and the full suite of multiplayer modes, including Versus, Horde, and Escalation, all presented in 4K with HDR at 60fps for Xbox One X owners.

Xbox Game Pass members can already access the entirety of the Gears of War series, of course, but if you've yet to sample the many delights of what Gears of War 4 has to offer, we'd suggest getting on the Free Play weekend pretty sharpish. Any progress made or achievements unlocked will carry across to the full version of Gears of War 4, available to download for $39.99/£33.49.
