Final Fantasy VIII Remastered is Out Now and is Still Presumably Brilliant

Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy VIII Remastered is now available (it actually launched yesterday), enabling you to rediscover (or discover for the first time) the adventures of SeeD recruit Squall Leonheart and his band of resistance fighters.

With Rinoa Heartilly and the rest of the crew, like Quistis, Zell, Irvine et al., you'll work together to save the world from the jackbooted military nation of Galbadia. This remastered re-release features upgraded visuals, and a new Battle Assist option to have constantly maxed HP and ATB, as well as the ability to trigger Limit Breaks at any time.

You can also play with No Encounters switched on to enjoy the game's storyline uninterrupted, and play through the game at 3x Speed. Final Fantasy VIII Remastered is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC now, priced $19.99/£15.99. Check out the launch trailer below.

  • I did my part. I bought the second it was buyable. Now they just need to give us the FF1-6 collection. Come on Square!
  • Now what will it take to get 7 Remastered on xbox...
  • Funny they mentioned all the characters but poor Stephie, who can one shot the super boss. I agree with 1-6, but don't forget chrono trigger, which is considered one of the best games of all time.
  • Don't worry @2, it'll happen eventually. There's too much demand for the remaster of FF7 that's on the way to only keep it a PS exclusive. It may be a few months after it releases for PS, but I am confident that it'll make its way to the Xbox.
  • @4 You sure about that? There's high demand for a lot of exclusives across all 3 that don't get to go on others because they're exclusive. If Xbox does get it, it will be years before we see it. Look at the demand for KH Collection to come to Xbox. KH3 is here, but the collection is still missing. I hope you're right, but I can assure you we won't see it for quite some time. At least until it's done on PlayStation.
  • @5: I'm actually pretty fine with that. I would prefer to get a "definitive edition" of FF7R with all 3-4 "games" put back together. Rather than paying $180-240 I'll pay $60 for the collection three years down the line and play it all at once.
  • @6 You think there will be a definitive version of all the episodes? I don't think it's gonna be like how TellTale games and Life Is Strange does their games. I believe it will be full games. They'll just stop at Midgar and carrying from there. More sequential like how Star Wars title their movies Episode 1,2,3, etc.
  • @2 it is out for Xbox? $16
  • @8 that's the original. The remaster hasn't been released on any system yet.
  • ff7 remake is absolutely coming to xbox, just not right away, even on playstation websites you can see the cover (also saw it at e3 this year) and the "only on playstation" stamp they ALWAYS have on their exclusives is nowhere to be seen. Like @6 said i would rather wait anyway and get the full game instead of paying for episodes, the episodic format needs to die in a fire, just release the game when it's ready and stop being greedy.
  • @10 I'm glad you know for sure it's coming. The Persona 5 game also doesn't have the "Only On PlayStation" stamp, yet it's game stayed exclusive to PS. I'm really not trying to be argumentative. I want Xbox to have FF7 Remake...and still the KH Collection. I really don't understand why that's still not released for Xbox.
  • Persona 5 is a great game, i own it for ps4 and love it but it is not in the same league as final fantasy 7 sales wise, square are not idiots they want to make $ as much as any other company i don't think even sony could pay them enough to make it exclusive. I don't know why persona 5 doesn't have the exclusive marking on the cover, but i have persona 3 and 5 dancing games also, and they both say exclusive to ps4 5 was on ps3 as well maybe that's why? dunno but either way xbox will get ff7 there is zero chance sony wouldn't be shouting it loud if it was an exclusive.
