Originally announced during the 2017 Game Developers Conference, the game promises to use the Snowdrop Engine, the same engine used by The Division and The Division 2. Ubisoft has history with the Avatar series, having previously developed and published the tie-in game for the original Avatar film. But there has been no real news on this new Avatar game for a while now, and some had expected it may have hit development hell.
Now though, we have confirmation not only that Avatar 2 has finished filming, but that the open-world RPG based on the world of Pandora is still in development. No word yet on a release date, but with Massive’s website still advertising for roles working on the game, we probably shouldn’t expect to see it quite so soon. The Avatar Project, as it is currently known, was last confirmed to be coming to Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
