Your Xbox Games with Gold have finally been announced for April, finally revealing what's in store for the ensuing month for Xbox Live Gold members. From tomorrow, you'll be able to get your hands on Slightly Mad's rather good racing sim sequel Project CARS 2, as well as three other tempting titles.

You can go back to where Lionhead's endearing RPG saga began with Fable Anniversary, which also heads up the latest backward compatible offerings from tomorrow. Then, from 16th April retro-style, turn-based RPG Knights of Pen and Paper Bundle will be yours to download for Xbox One.

As for your second backward compatible title for April, it's the Micro Machines-esque Toybox Turbos, giving you a nice dose of couch multiplayer to enjoy with friends and family in these trying times. With 35 vehicles and 18 tracks to master across six power-up fueled modes, fun is (hopefully) assured.

  • I mean, Fable would be more enticing if it wasn't in GamePass but still decent.
  • @1 - Also if it didn't have an unobtainable achievement... :/
  • @2 It’s still obtainable if you have a 360. I played a couple of years ago and it was the last achievement I needed. Had to plug in the 360 and use a dodgy guitar hero controller but I managed to do it
  • What's the unobtainable?
  • Would've been smart to make this a good month. What with millions being in lockdown, they could've lured people back to Xbox with a better lineup. Instead we get a game already on Gamepass, two mediocre racing games and a ported mobile game bundle.
  • @4 it requires the xbox smart glass thing. I got the achievement in 2017 though so it might still be doable?
  • Welp. Looks like another shit month for GWG. Oh well. At least we're getting Automata with Game Pass on the second. Hopefully the rest of April's game pass will be announced soon.
  • @5: What #7 said. If you think GWG will ever be "good" again, you're sorely mistaken. Game Pass Ultimate is where everyone should be right now. You'll get Nier Automata in April on top of this stuff, and a bunch of other games still not announced. Though I'll definitely play the Pen and Paper games. And those will be the first GWG I'll have downloaded in probably a year.
  • Great month for racer fans! PC2 is the best sim racing game on consoles. Great timing before ACC comes out.
  • @8, You're right in that Game Pass is the way to go, and that Microsoft only cares about pushing that right now. So GWG will likely be hot trash most of the times. However, not everyone has Game Pass, and for some, it doesn't make sense to get Game Pass because of having a massive backlog to go through. So for those people, it's a bit of a "shit out of luck" scenario.
  • @8. Yep. Game Pass seems to be where Microsoft is focusing a lot of their attention on, which I honestly can't blame them, since it's a system seller for real. I mean, think about it. For $9.99 (or $14.99 if you go the ultimate route which most do), you get access to a HUGE library of games without having to fork over much cash right after you buy the system. Games With Gold is basically an afterthought. Occasionally you'll get some good shit (like Shantae and Sonic Generations last month), but the majority of it will be ass, quick little Indie games that Microsoft can flip at no cost. Yes, you're getting games for free, but the overall quality of those games is questionable. If you'll excuse me, I now must go and play Yakuza 0.
  • The Fable Smart glass achievement is definetly unobtainable. You can no longer download 360 smartglass. Luckily I had it downloaded on my phone and tried it in June 2019 but it would not connect to my 360 so even if you have the correct app it no longer connects. Even on true achievements the last person who won it was on Jan 2018
  • I'm excited about Fable Anniversary! Bought it back in the day physically, but sold/traded it in when upgrading to a One. But it's been ridiculous it's always been priced digitally at $40, and I don't think I've ever seen it on sale. Even though I mostly buy digital games now, that was too much. It'll be nice to have the complete trilogy now!
  • Strange that PC2 and FA were already free today, a day early. I grabbed them both more than 12 hours ago.
  • I'd actually been considering buying the pen and paper bundle, I played the free version of the 2nd one on android and liked it despite it being HEAVILY fucked over compared to the paid version [major grind due to being much stingier with gold/xp and enemies much tougher.]
  • @14 they always go free 24hrs early because of refund policy
  • Did they ever fix the freezing issue with Fable? I had problems when it came out & then kind of forgot about it. Would love to play through it again, was one of my favorites.
  • I might actually download Project Cars 2. Been wanting a new car game to get that car racing itch since I stopped playing Forza 7 and Horizon 4. Fable Anniversary is nice until you realize it's already on Game Pass, which makes it a throwaway useless title for Games with Gold.
  • @10: The thing about Game Pass, is it tends to pay for itself even when you don't use it much. For instance, since I signed up in like August or whatever I have played upon launch: Gears 5, The Outer Worlds (Xbox and W10), Remnant: From the Ashes, Wasteland Remastered, and Indivisible (W10). Hundreds of dollars worth of games, yet it's only five in all, and one is only $15. The value is insane, it truly does save you money in the long run if you plan to play at least 2-3 new games per year from Microsoft first-party studios and then assume a few random indies and third-party releases. You'd be paying for Xbox Live anyway AND purchasing those games.
  • @19 It is quite literally a no-brainer, I don't understand why any Xbox gamer wouldn't have it. Especially when you consider how many ways there are to sub without paying full price, if at all.
  • @19 and @20, You're both correct... It's a no-brainer no doubt, and even when they first released Game Pass, I wanted to get in on it, as you do save money in the long run. However, my backlog is a couple hundred deep, and with limited time, I'd rather devote the time hammering on my backlog. I'm not bashing Game Pass at all... I just wish MS understood that they're not losing out in any way if they put a little bit more care on GWG for those that don't have Game Pass.
  • UPDATE: Toybox Turbos has been removed as a GwG title and replaced with Blinx: The Time Sweeper. https://www.trueachievements.com/n41353/games-with-gold-april Personally a little disappointed to not be getting the knock-off micromachines game, but I've actually wanted to play Blinx for a while.
  • I'm with @21. What puts me off game pass is that I'm one of those people whose family say they never know what to get me for birthdays and Christmas. So not having Game Pass means there's a ton of good classic/cheap games I can ask for. For pretty much the same reason I'd rather they just can GwG so my backlog might actually start coming down :) Especially now Game Pass gives others a more cost effectively route to gaming.
