Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath DLC Adding More Story Returning Characters and RoboCop

Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath DLC Adding More Story, Returning Characters, and RoboCop

Richard Walker

Sometimes, I think it'd be nice to reset history and start all over again. At the end of Mortal Kombat 11's story, Raiden and Liu Kang were presented with that very opportunity, as Kronika's reign of time-tinkering terror was brought to an end and the duo contemplated starting time afresh, to “architect a new history”. Picking up exactly where the conclusion of MK11 left off, upcoming expansion Aftermath begins with Shang Tsung (portrayed once again by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa), Nightwolf, and Fujin sticking their oar in, warning that attempting to restart history without Kronika's crown (destroyed by Fire God Liu Kang) will "doom us all".

That means zipping back in time to nab the crown before Kronika got her mitts on it, so the fellas can get to sorting out history and setting everything straight. Of course, there's no way that's ever going to go smoothly, and naturally, there's resistance from Erron Black, Baraka, and a legion of Tarkatans. "There are so many possible stories and avenues," says Story & Voiceover Director Dominic Cianciolo of continuing MK11's narrative, adding that NetherRealm is looking to "tell the best story we can."

Shang Tsung and Raiden's windy brother Fujin (who will be joining the roster as a new fighter) will have a major role to play in Aftermath, as will four-armed Shokan (half human, half dragon) warrior Sheeva, who will also be added to MK11 as a new character. And it wouldn't be a proper Mortal Kombat character reveal without a guest character, would it? Enter cybernetic law enforcer RoboCop, who'll be joining fellow ‘80s movie robot the Terminator in Mortal Kombat's pantheon of guest kombatants. The star of the 1987 original and its 1990 sequel, Peter Weller, will be reprising his role, lending his voice and likeness to RoboCop.

Fujin, meanwhile, flexes his abilities as the God of Wind, wielding a sword and bow; whereas Sheeva is a grappler, a formidable opponent with an unblockable teleport stomp, like fellow Shokan Goro. As for RoboCop, he's packing an arsenal of weaponry, including his Auto-9 pistol, a flamethrower, riot shield, and his deployable spike. As guest characters go, RoboCop is another very cool addition that will no doubt appeal to anyone who grew up on a diet of violent ‘80s action flicks.

If all of this isn't quite enough, then a free update for all Mortal Kombat 11 players arriving alongside Aftermath will also see the return of some fan-favourite features, including stage fatalities, with the 'Klassic Dead Pool' and 'Soul Chamber' arenas making a welcome comeback. Where Mortal Kombat X brought back 'Babalities', MK11 sees 'Friendships' bringing some much-needed kindness to NetherRealm's otherwise brutal world. Rather than tearing out your heart, then, Kano will use his eye laser to fire up a nice barbecue; Noob Saibot will split himself into three and get his skipping rope out; while Scorpion will reel in a huge, cuddly teddy bear. Aww.

To recap, then. Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath is a hefty expansion, featuring a continuation of the game's cinematic storyline. It adds three new characters – Fujin, Sheeva, and RoboCop – features three new skin packs to be released periodically (including the pre-order Eternal Klash Skin Pack with looks for Scorpion, Frost, and Sub-Zero). It''ll be coming to Mortal Kombat 11 on 26th May for $39.99/£34.99 (a Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Kollection bundling the game, Aftermath, and Kombat Pack will also be available for $59.99/£49.99, and the MK 11: Aftermath and Kombat Pack Bundle will be available for $49.99/£39.99), with the free update rolling out on the same day. What's not to like?! If nothing else, it'll be nice to see RoboCop again, outside the confines of an advert for Direct Line insurance.

  • Is this included in the Season Pass that came with the Ultimate Edition?
  • This not not included. It is its own price point. It is the story DLC and 3 characters. I am hyped. Sheeva is my chick and I can't wait for more story!!
  • I also really hope they add in new achievements. I need a reason to play more after 100%ing.
  • RoboCop eh? Interesting. Guess that means Ash is coming last, unless he was a red herring in the files?
  • @3 I agree this was an easy 100%, but $40 is almost a new games basically, so like I did for the actual game and the dlc pack probably wait for a sale. Am glad they are doing a dlc that focuses on the story rather then just more characters as well. Also good to see Shang Tsung playing a big role as his voice from the original movie is amazing.
  • £34.99??!! Out of their damn minds!
  • I will wait until this goes on sale until i decide to purchase it, but other than that, this looks freaking sweet.
  • Would have been nice to have all of this included in the season pass but let's be honest, you had me at Robocop!
  • "Your Move, Creep."
  • why no physical copy in UK, I may have to wait then...20 seconds!! netherrealm
  • Will have to wait for a sale. I'm an MK fiend, but that price is completely ridiculous

  • ROBOCOP without Peter Weller....No thanks. Such a let down.
  • @13 uses Peter Wellers voice and likeness according to IGN. Would agree with you otherwise!
  • @13 & 14 - It's in the article! "The star of the 1987 original and its 1990 sequel, Peter Weller, will be reprising his role, lending his voice and likeness to RoboCop."
  • So 40 bucks for those of us who purchased the game while new players can get the entire package for 60? That feels shady af.
