It looks like some Square Enix announcements that were originally planned for the now-cancelled E3 2020 will be made around July and August this year instead.
Last month, it was reported that SE had declined to put together its own digital E3-style showcase as some other publishers had, as COVID-19 had caused the production of assets for such a show to become more difficult. Instead, they were going to announce each title on an individual basis.
Now, Square Enix has seemingly confirmed this during a stockholders meeting earlier this week, saying that while they had at some point planned to do a replacement conference, they since decided not to. The new information here is that SE will be debuting quite a few of these games between July and August. You can see the full question and answer below (translation thanks to Gematsu).
Question: Normally, you would announce new games at E3, but how has coronavirus affected your plans this year?
Answer: We would normally announce new games at E3, yes. We had planned to have a press conference as a replacement event, but were unable to do so since assets were not complete. We’ll be announcing new titles individually as the timing permits. Several will debut around July to August.
That's something to look forward to then. What can we expect to see during these months? The safe bets would be more information on Dying Light 2 or Outriders, but might we get a glimpse at a new Tomb Raider or Final Fantasy? Maybe we'll even see the Dragon Quest series make its way over to the Xbox. Let us know your rampant speculation down in the comments!
