Far Cry 6 has been officially unveiled during today's Ubisoft Forward showcase, with a cinematic trailer featuring Better Call Saul and The Mandalorian actor Giancarlo Esposito who portrays tyrannical dictator and bad guy, Anton Castillo. Intent on restoring the nation of Yara to its former glory by any means necessary, Castillo hopes for his son Diego to follow in his footsteps.

You'll play as local Yaran and fledgling freedom fighter Dani Rojas, sparking the fight for freedom by pushing back against Castillo's oppressive rule, recruiting animal companions like wiener dog Chorizo, and other guerrilla fighters. Yara will include the sprawling city of Esperanza to explore, in what promises to be "the most expansive Far Cry playground to date."

As Rojas, you'll also have the choice of how to fight Anton, choosing to stay hidden or engage his army in all-out warfare on the streets of Esperanza. Riding horses, commandeering tanks and using makeshift weapons and vehicles will all be part and parcel of your fight in Far Cry 6 when it launches on 18th February 2021 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5.

Check out the debut trailers and an interview with Giancarlo Esposito below.

  • So far so good. Need some gameplay now
  • That cinematic trailer looked great, I just hope that the gameplay is going to be traditional Far Cry and not a continuation of the RPG system the used in New Dawn. What I love about Far Cry is your ability to use whatever weapon you want customized with whatever weapon skin or attachments you want. While I did like New Dawn didn't like crafting "Legendary" weapons with preset features and not being able to use certain weapons because their gear ranking was too low. As long as they don't have that system, then Far Cry 6 will be just right.
  • Another thing is in alot of ways this is Far Cry as usual. Can't help but notice some similarities to the Just Cause franchise. Interesting.
  • This all sounds great but that kid is totally a young Vaas. No doubt in my mind now. Hopefully we get to play as him at some point, maybe in an epilogue where we see him establish himself on Rook Island.
  • I want to believe it's a young Vaas too, but I don't think the time periods add up. I hear many people mention there's a lot of old tech, cars and other things, so it's a prequel. But the kid is listening to music on a smart phone. So it only works if Far Cry 3 is suppose to be about 15-20 years in the future.
  • How can this possibly be Vaas when he was born on the island and raised by its inhabitants...? *Vaas was born in 1985 on the Rook Islands and from a young age, he was a member of the native Rakyat.*
