A new art book based on the original Mass Effect trilogy of games has added fuel to the rumours of a remastered collection coming to current or next-gen consoles.

The book, titled "The Art of the Mass Effect Trilogy: Expanded Edition", has popped up on Amazon US and is available for preorder now.

"Expanded with hundreds of never before seen works of art, this new edition delves deeper than ever into the sci-fi saga that changed video games forever. Contains extensive new material from the DLCs for all three games--including the award-winning "Lair of the Shadow Broker" from Mass Effect 2 and the fan-favorite "Citadel" from Mass Effect 3," the description reads.

"Experience the evolution of the aliens, planets, ships, and technology that define this iconic science fiction universe, as the developers who brought BioWare's masterpiece to life take you from the earliest design sketches through to the meticulous final renders. Brimming with concept art and commentary, this expanded edition is the ultimate companion to one of the greatest series in the history of gaming!"

Game publishers do occasionally partner with book publishers for art books for no particular reason, so this isn't any concrete confirmation, but when added to the reports of a remastered Mass Effect Trilogy earlier this year it does make for excellent speculation. The book is due to release on 23rd February 2021, so perhaps this is our first hint of when to expect to see the remastered collection? Does this mean it will release on next-gen consoles? Only time will tell.

Mass Effect Andromeda is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

  • Wish they would just announce this already
  • Out of all the remasters this is the one I've wanted the most. Absolutely loved Andromeda, but can't wait to get my teeth into this.
  • @2 - imo there so many remasters we didn't need but the ones we actually want don't get mentioned enough My top 5 list for remasters are 1) Mass Effect Trilogy 2) Batman arkham Orgins 3) Dragon Age 1&2 4) Assassins Creed 5) Splinter Cell
  • I personally hope if they do this that they skip current gen and go for next gen since it’s not far away now
  • @3 - Chuck Dead Space in there as well
  • Now it’s just not fun anymore EA.
  • @5 God what I wouldn't give for that!! Super psyched for ME remaster though, been waiting ages
  • Do you guys mean 23rd February 2021? The article says 2020. I really want this remaster to come out. I did a replay of the entire trilogy last year and having it in an even better form would be amazing.
  • My one want for this remake is for the first game to be redone in the later game engine for 2/3.
  • @2 happy to see someone else enjoyed andromeda. I wouldn’t say I loved it but i did have a lot of fun with it. Not on the level of the original trilogy though, for which a remaster is definitely due.
  • @3 cracking list! I think mine would be 1. Mass Effect Trilogy 2. Chrono Trigger 2. Mario Anniversary Trilogy 4. Final Fantasy VI 5. Metroid Prime Trilogy (by Bluepoint... never going to happen) 6. Skyward Sword
  • @5. This just my opinion, but Dead Space is perfect, just the way it is
  • I would definitely love to see this. A definitive remaster of the whole trilogy with all content included, but I'm not sure I'd trust EA to do it justice. They would find some way to screw gamers, or totally undercook the release. Same goes for Deadspace.
