Developer Snowcastle Games has released the first teaser trailer for Earthlock 2, as well as detailing how the game will be different from the original Earthlock.

The teaser trailer doesn't show off much, but Earthlock 2 looks like it's taking on a slightly different art style, and will be much closer to the action than the original game. This makes sense, as Snowcastle Games is changing up the formula in a significant way for the sequel. Where Earthlock was a classic-style turn-based RPG based on late 90s JRPGs, Earthlock 2 will be an open-world action-RPG, offering "complex interlocking systems" that allow players to customise their own experience.

"We are so pleased to finally offer up this first tease of what players can come to expect in Earthlock 2," explained Game Director Bendik Stang. "We really want our next title to offer players a huge amount of replayability, customisation and depth, with incredible emergent gameplay possibilities. It's been an exciting endeavour for us and we can't wait to reveal more about the game in the future, please stay tuned!"

To celebrate the reveal, the original Earthlock game is currently 80% off on the Xbox Store.

Earthlock 2 will be coming to Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC.

  • looking forward to this, really enjoyed the first, this might be a stupid question but does real time battles mean no turn based?
  • @1 Yeah it seems that way, complete move away from turn-based, hopefully people who enjoyed the first game will still enjoy the gameplay change
  • @#2 I really enjoyed the combat in the first but I dont mind them changing it up, I dont mind real time, I just prefer turn based.
  • I love the first game, and they improved it a ton with the re-released version. I'm a little disappointed they are moving away from turn-based combat but I expect this to be just as charming as far as the world and characters go.
  • At least they won't have that horrible balancing issue during the very end. Never finished the game despite playing through it twice (pre/post-major change). Nonetheless, highly excited about this one. They had some nice ideas to keep the TBS fresh, so hopefully, that'll translate into the RT-gameplay as well.
  • @4 I hadn't heard about Earthlock before writing the news but just picked it up for £4 in the sale now. Look forward to giving it a go based on all the recommendations here!
  • I really loved both versions of part 1, and agree with those above who are disappointed with the combat changes. It won't turn me away what so ever, it's just such a lost art as is, why change now? @5 I didn't think there were any issues with balancing. I don't remember having to grind much at all. I thought they did a good job with making you use the talent board and right party setup for certain situations.
