Mass Effect Trilogy Remaster Could Be Arriving This October

Rumoured on and off for a while now, new fuel has been added to the fire regarding the possible release of the Mass Effect Trilogy Remaster, with an industry insider claiming that BioWare's sci-fi classics could be re-releasing with a lick of digital paint this October.

According to VentureBeat's Jeff Grubb (via VideoGamer), "an additional EA HD title" could be among a range of EA games that the company is planning to remaster, following its Q2 2020 earnings call in which Electronic Arts stated its intent to release "exciting remasters of fan favourites". Best guesses as to what these could be include remasters of Dead Space, Dragon Age, Star Wars: KOTOR, and, of course, Mass Effect.

The impending release of an updated Mass Effect Art Book has also led many to believe that a Mass Effect Trilogy Remaster could be imminent, and with Grubb now claiming that a potential announcement and release could be on for October, this is sounding more and more plausible. With Mass Effect Andromeda putting the series on ice, a remastered collection of the original trilogy could create renewed interest ahead of am all-new Mass Effect, too, so it makes sense.

Until official confirmation is forthcoming from EA and/or BioWare, however, we'll be taking this with the obligatory pinch of salt for the time being. But rest assured, we'll be keeping our ear to the ground for any and all info on the Mass Effect  Trilogy Remasters.

  • I know it's sad, but I've been scanning the internet for all things Remastered Mass Effect for well over a month now, eagerly digesting each and every rumour. I so want this to be true. It doesn't matter what I'm playing at the time, but I'll drop whatever it is to play this Day One! Really hope that it's not just a visual upgrade to the first game though, I'd love it if they can bring the same fidelity to the combat in the first game as we saw in the sequels, which were so much better in terms of gameplay. Leave the story alone, but improve on the combat, a nip and tuck here and there, and I'll be the first in the queue to buy it. Absolutely cannot wait!
  • improve the load times...but do not re-record the dialogue (i.e. Halo remasters). also, do not charge more than 50 bucks (fat chance).
  • See I'm the opposite, i wish i had the option of putting the combat from 1 into 2 and 3.
  • I think it was the ranged combat in the first game that I really didn't like, @3. The sway on the sniper rifle made it ridiculously difficult to use, particularly early on. Don't misunderstand me, I'll buy it regardless of whether they improve the combat, but I'd prefer them to tighten it up. Really hope that they get rid of the achievement that required you to play through the first game 3 times so as to have used each of the companions to the requisite amount. Also would absolutely love it if they include the ME3 multiplayer too, as that was very good. I used to do the multiplayer Gold Solo runs back in the day, I was never able to complete the Platinum Solo's though, so if they include the multiplayer again, it would be a good excuse to have another bash at it!
  • I too hope the first game gets some gameplay improvements and not just a remaster. I remember it being finicky and clunky back then and that was over 10 years ago. That said, this is super exciting!
  • @2 Figure $20 per remaster, so $60 for the bundle would be fair IF WE'RE LUCKY. It's EA though, so I wouldn't look past them charging full price for each game.
  • None of this makes sense. The greediest company has the most anticipated remake and they’re gonna stealth drop it? Lies....
  • @7 Activision only just released a teaser for this year's COD title yesterday, two months out from release. Between that and EA potentially stealth dropping a trilogy remaster, 2020 has made everyone go bananas.
  • @ The CE remaster didn’t re-record dialogue, it was just everything else.
  • The Mass Effect co-op multiplayer was so much fun. It was a short fun horde mode with unique characters to unlock. I really liked it. I too hope the multiplayer is also remastered and brought over. I doubt it though. I figure this is more of a Single Player remaster only. I hope I'm wrong. I also hope it's a real remaster and not a port. I'd like a remaster that real effort and polish has been applied. I'd pay $60 for a trilogy remaster.
  • One of the few remaster I'll enjoy playing. Give me this and Dead Space.
  • I definitely want this under my Christmas Tree.
  • Oh fuck yes, Dead Space please! I still get chills playing the first game in the dark with surround sound... I can only imagine what it would be like in 4k and Dolby Atmos!! :D
  • Oh yes. This and Dead Space please.
  • *softly* ...don't
  • i would actually love KotOR 1&2 remaster over Mass Effect Trilogy remaster, but only by a marginal degree.
  • I never played 3 because my save from 2 corrupted and I wanted all my choices to carry over. I went to replay 1 and 2 to start again but 1 aged so poorly I just couldn’t manage it. I was just saying to my friends how badly I’d like a remaster with and update to 1. So I could finally get round to playing 3.
  • #17 Play it again on 360. Then play it again remastered! I've played these games all the way through at least a dozen times. I've been waiting a remaster for several years. They better not be toying with my emotions here. I can't handle the disappointment of being teased with a remaster then they don't deliver.
