6 Years of Halo Planned, ODST Sells 2.5m & Reach Confirmed as Prequel

If you love Halo, you'll love the next 6 years if 343 Industries' Creative Director, Frank O'Connor's words are anything to go by. If you loathe Halo... suck it up... it's going to be a long ride.

"We do have a plan that goes out at least six years," says O'Connor. Plans that include not only Halo: Reach, the upcoming anime Halo: Legends but a new Marvel comic series called Halo: Bloodline following the success of the current series Halo: Helljumper, a new story collection called Halo: Evolutions and the sixth wave of Halo action figures. And we suspect there is more... lots more.

According to USA Today - where all this new info stems from - Halo 3: ODST has already sold over 2.5 million units in just its first 2 weeks which according to Microsoft, amounts to about $125 million for their Entertainment and Devices division. The article doesn't specify whether that is just US or global sales, but it's pretty damn good either way.

O'Connor talked briefly about Halo: Reach as well, confirming our suspicions that the game will act as a prequel to the franchise, suspicions that were based on the fact that Reach was the target of some serious Covenant aggression before Halo: Combat Evolved.

"It's a prequel to Halo 1," says O'Connor, "a chronological prequel, but it is not a prequel in the directions the Star Wars prequels were to the (original) movies."

"It will cover events in and around the planet Reach." Again, something we assumed already.

O'Connor did find time to mention the Halo film which is currently on hold, as well as... try to act shocked here... hinting that Master Chief may return.

"We're being very careful to pick the right time and the right partner," O'Connor said about the movie. And Master Chief, well...

"I think that (his) fate, Cortana's fate and the identity of that giant, dark planet at the ending (on the game's hardest skill level) — that's a spoiler — are probably big mysteries that would be irritating if they were just cliffhangers."

Good news for Halo fans. Just news for everyone else.

  • Six more years of the same game over and over again. Hooray.
  • Oh god I hope this isn't going to turn out like the Tony Hawk games and GH. I love Halo 3 but was disappointed by ODST. Hope the games are starting to get worse.... However the anime could be cool :)
  • And here comes the hate comments and MW2 junkies.

  • *aren't we reli need an edit button =/
  • Hahaha Halo halo and even more halo! Its gonna be 6 happy years
  • I miss the first halo.
  • As long as they keep coming out with multiplayer for Halo games I'm happy!
  • halo 1 was great. the other 2 blow, just like bungie. seriously... this needs to stop
  • When are they gonna do iHalo hardware?
  • [Comment deleted]
  • odst sells 2.5 mill. what a shame. 2.5 million people just wasted 60 dollars on a cheezy expansion.
  • I look forward to seeing what directions bungie will go with the story. I've been a fan since halo 1...just wish it had achievements :)
  • DOES THIS MEAN WE FINALLY GET HALO KARTS?!?!?!?! Daaaamn that would be SWEET!
  • #3 lol #4 fuck you and for myself as long as they remain great let it come=D
  • Also, bring it on. You can never have enough Halo. And finally, cue the haters and CoD fanboys.
  • @12: I actually got my copy at Toysrus with a $20 GC and halo figure so yes i did spend $60 on it but i got $20 to spend on a future game :P @13: Achievements for Halo 1 would be sweet! :D
  • milking the name almost as much as Activision milks Guitar Hero. Think i'm done with Halo.
  • Six more years of fanboys buying maps they already have?
  • not too bad personally not a big halo fan myself its good for with your mates but still looks pretty cool
  • agree with #12 halo odst wasnt worth the hype...I hope MW 2 wont go the same way
  • @1.. Here comes another CoD.. then another. Here comes another GoW.. then another. Here comes another Madden. then another. Here comes another Rock Band. then another. Here comes another Guitar Here. then another. Here comes another Fable. then another. See a trend?
  • why complain? they leave the store at a cliffhanger and there still makeing interesting modes and styles of play. odst for example was ment to be a slightly different experence then halo 3 because you are a normal guy not a 7 foot tall beast.just enjoy the experence and if you dont like halo DONT BUY IT is that really that hard?
  • #22... GoW?!?! There are only two of them!
  • Honestly there really wasn't much hype about ODST.. think about it, we didn't find out a lot about the game until a month before. For the longest time it was just that one trailer.. There isn't anything wrong with Halo. I kind of don't like the different stories thing, if Halo was setup like the Star Wars plot line, I think it may be a little better.
  • *Story agreed they do need an edit button....
  • @23: Exactly people fuckin cry because they don't like halo. Well it's simple just don't buy the damn games if you don't like them! DURR!!!
  • @24, that's a good thing there's only 2 of them
  • Sounds awesome, go halo and bungie!!
  • 6 years of Halo? Talk about milking the franchise for all its worth. When Bungie is done with Halo, so am I. The franchise will probably go downhill anyways after its out of Bungie's hands.
  • i hope they finish the story with master chief, i mean that was a good ending but it was like Halo 2, i hate ckiff hangers
  • 6 more years of people being pissed at a successful company. lolz.
  • Reading this was like sex to my eyes.
  • I have lost interest in the Halo franchise but good news for others i guess.
  • ok there are only going to be 3 games of gears of war, because they are going to wrap it up in gears 3. If Epic makes more than 3 gears than shame on them because its really great series. There only needs to be 3. About ODST, that game was not worth $60. I'm sorry but the campaign sucked. Firefight sucked. Achievements are a nuisance to get(yes i will 100% it). thats all i have to say about halo.
  • 6 years of halo? Im in
  • I personally think that half these people nowadays are just trying to follow a trend that Halo sucks. Seriously it gets tiring having to hear mostly some of these little kids complain about it constantly, Halo itself is not a terrible game, though I would say there have been better games and Gears of War if anyting follows a much better storyline, but that aside I also understand that there are fans of the series out there that want to enjoy as much as they can from it. Much like Star Wars there have been tons of games and though I personally do not like star wars i dont go bashing on how they are milking out the series for money. People and I do mean some of the little kids going around thinking its cool to say the Halo series needs to stop, its just getting annoying. Just stay away from
  • (*)the series if it bothers you that much.
  • Lets hope they make more changes in the upcoming games. ODST could have been totally been better if they added a cover system. it would have made sense aswell, seen as your not as tough as the MC and would have to think more tactically. it would of added a whole new dynamic to the halo series. But i dont think they dare change anything that much :(
  • I guess this will be alright as long as Bungie doesnt make a game like ODST again im cool. It really wasnt worth it.
  • @12 2.5 Million people can't be wrong. What i dont understand is why do people who hate a game feel the need to post their feelings about it? I hate Hanah Montana, but Im not posting my hatred toward the game.
  • I'm very excited to see what is in store for the franchise. Honestly though, if you don't like the game then just stay away from it. I don't believe you were commanded (and if you were, I'm sorry to hear that...damn aliens) to buy the game so it's technically your fault. For the more Halo fans it could go either way, really excited or somewhat hesitant. Either way, the future of Halo has already been confirmed so let us just see what happens. There is no point in hating the game that hasn't even arrived yet.
  • of course reach as been confirmed as a prequel what they think it was gonna be reach is how the chief got started and fall of reach an excellent book i must say
  • @22 you can't complain about madden, they bring out a new game for every season with new features and new stats for the teams.
  • @41 of cause that many people can be wrong. Look at the Nazi's. Look at the amount of dumb ass people that voted George Bush in for a 2nd term. just bcos 2.5 million people bought it. doesnt make it a wise choice.
  • @ myself however they can be very repetative
  • People only say Halo sucks because it's a pathetic excuse of an FPS game. It's made for kids, it's played by kids, and the people who complain are the ones who aren't kids. It's like a 30 yr old man playing a Barbie spin-off on DS and saying it sucked, a 3 yr old girl might think differently. Fact is, people need to play games that are actually designed for their age group, such as CoD for teens / adults and CSS for slightly older people.
  • At least six more years?!! Happy days! :)
  • They Need To Release A Game Like Halo 2 That Was The Best Multiplayer By far if u disagree wit me either u neva played halo 2 or just sucked at it n is good at halo 3
  • Honestly, i love the halo story, loved 2's online play. 3's online just sucks, im sorry, but it does. oh, and GoW is supposed to be a Trilogy.
  • Reach better be the most amazing shit ever created. They need to spice it up a bit cause Halo is really starting to get old.
  • 6 years of bliss? Count me in! Tired of ppl complaining though, saying they just milk the franchise but no one fails to mention that there's a new Call of Duty every year! I don't complain seeing as how I love Halo & Call of Duty, & as long as they don't go stale, I'll be buying them for a long time.
  • Halo: Reach - Gonna hold my thoughts on that til' I see some gameplay or something. Halo: Legends - I personally hate anime, so this doesn't interest me. At all. Halo Comics - It sucked having to track down the comics to find out what happened between 2 and 3. @39 I do agree, the games don't change that much. All that seems to change is the platform they're on, add a couple new weapons, and change the things people like most.

  • Halo ODST campaign was fun enough but i guess its because that I played it in co-op, but well halo is most fun in co-op. i dont understant why that many people complain that much about it...
  • Bungie is easily one of the top 5 studios out there. Every Halo game that they've made has been improved and different. Everyone puts these ridiculous expectations on Bungie because they have spawned such great games. ODST was made in a single year (which is just nuts) and was fresh enough for me to enjoy. With a new improved engine, Halo: Reach will be the next big FPS.
  • wow the comments.. smells like youtube
  • @58: You must be new here. Personally I think ODST is the second best Halo game (Behind Halo, obviously), so I've got high hopes for Reach now.
  • ^^ Does that include you then?
  • I read this in the ODST forums yesterday
  • damn i was aiming at #54
  • @ 30 Go Downhill with someone elses hands? I dont think you noticed but it was going downhill after Halo 1 and It was in Bungies hands maybe shifting to a different company Can finally make the game better
  • If you don't like Halo or any other game series stop paying attention to them, its so simple that you just don't have to click on the news posts. I don't like Guitar Hero or Rock Band, but I will never complain about them because I know alot of people do like them, should they stop the series because I think they are milking the series or don't like it? No, just enjoy the games you like and let people enjoy the games they like.
  • I love the people complaining about how they're "milking" the franchise. Of course they are! It's a financially successful franchise. All businesses are out to make a profit, and as long as Halo is profitable, there will be Halo games. What, you think the developers are going to stop just because some whiny boys who aren't even done with puberty think it's cool to bash Halo? That'll happen.
  • yay ^.^
  • Damn the halo movie and it being too expensive to make. We'd have it already if it wasnt = /
  • Halo 1 was good, ans then it started to get repetative, Im not a halo fan but i did love art 1 and some of 2. 3 was not my kind, its just they keep putting the same shit in there and theres no story line just kill the enemies and try to save the world. Thats all there is to it, if you people think im wrong then ur too mushed up into the lame halo storyline after 1
  • I hate missing some words when I type in shit EDIT** and, part
  • ODST was a waste of $60 and I love Halo but they have gotten worse and more and more noob friedly since Halo CE. I will get any halo that has a multiplayer, the campaigns have blown since the first one. Take the noob ass equipment out and AR,sure they will lose a few 6 year old gamers but it will make the game better and more skill based. Then again..as long as forge exists MLG can just go in and clean up all of bungies mistakes.
  • The same game for another 6 years? Can it not admit to death already..... They better get creative with Halo: Reach gameplay. Another Halo 3/ODST with a different story would show lack of creativity on their part.
  • Plus..a new halo has great potential for multiplayer ach. not ones like halo 3 where to this day it still ruins lonewolves, noobs running around trying to get 5 pt achs. Put total kill achs for certain gametypes and overall, and make it where kills against players in your own party dont count, eliminate all the boosting. How hard would it be to get 100,000 total kills online? Or 10,000 kills with a weapon like snipe or BR (one that you use naturally and wouldnt ruin multiplayer) step your games up bungie...im not splattering someone with a mongoose. Keep people playing and have some long well earned achs.
  • Well 6 more years of this same guns, same grenades, same walking speed, same shields, look at COD MW2, it just keeps getting better and better
  • i love halo, i love their style, they are more socials
  • @65: It is not obvious that developers milk their franchise. There are developers who respect their creation over money, which is also called passion. I like the Halo franchise a lot and I've played all of them but it has been a downhill with Halo for a while now. Sure, they might have gotten bigger profits for these newer games but that's mainly because they have got more resources to support them. I think they should just forget these ODST spin-offs, take a break for a couple years and design the story properly for the next three games and name them properly just Halo 4, Halo 5 and Halo 6.
  • @ 73 Thats what im talking about, MW2 has new shit, Halo games has nothing new. Yes im a fanboy of MW2 but im not dissing the Halo series like I would be right now, I dont see Halo fanboys come in MW and trash that
  • @#47: So you just like putting people into boxes then, eh? Well, you're a complete idiot good sir. Also, I find your comments regarding Halo hilarious. What, you pissed Halo: CE, a console FPS, was such an evolution to the FPS genre and that a massively successful game franchise is played by millions of people and that said game franchise isn't always CoD? Fanboys are annoying; anti-game fanboys (such as yourself) are just down-right pathetic and hilarious.
  • I enjoy Halo as much as the next person but this is just stupid. If Bungie doesn't want to do anymore Halo games after Halo: Reach, let it be.
  • I say let there be more halo. If people buy it, there is clearly a want for it. Why do all you haters post here, wasting minutes of your life to try and bring people down about something they like? A new halo game, anime or whatever is only good, as it brings happiness to the people who want it and it shouldn't make anyone mad. If you don't like it, don't buy/watch/read/play it, simple as.
  • @#79: You've just blown my mind. A sensible person on the web? Never.
  • I enjoyed halo 1 and 2 after that its gotten old nothing that great. ODST was a waste of a rent I hated it. Hopefully they can bring back some of the halo 1 and 2.
  • Yay, 6 more planned years of milking the Halo name for every penny that it's worth, and then most likely whoring it out to a Disney movie in the very end. Little does everyone know that the kid in The Jungle Book, is a young Master Chief.
  • #33 AMEN!! Im not so sure about the tv show and such but im liking the idea of the movie and cliffhangers possibly being solved. All you haters can go find some call of duty forum to orgy in. Halo is amazing and until you make a game with as many fans and as much income you can suck it.
  • yawn-yawn
  • haha i love how people take this like lets milk the series or wow 6 years of the same game yawn.... look at metal gear solid, final fantasy. They all improve and improve just like halo is so gtfo with all the stupid troll comments
  • Awesome, can't wait!
  • MODERN WARFARE 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • #68 good job hating :) On topic 6 more years of halo badass :)
  • oh well, I won't be buying any of them.( That's what I say now.) haha
  • Reach will most likely be the most successful and last successful Game released by bungie i LOVE the halo games and i like many others are getting the feeling that it's dying and you can tell since their starting to steer far away from the game comic books (The Movie :-() why not just stick to the books and a couple more games. No No only because microsoft AKA Bill Gates are extremely money hungry.
  • Like honestly, Halo isn't getting milked as much as CoD. Theres pretty much a new CoD every year, theres been six just on the 360 and only 3 halos, or 4 if you count Halo Wars. Personally I prefer Halo, don't like CoD that much and don't really say the game sucks to everybody. Everybody has there own preferences and everybody could stick to it. Just don't say the series is getting milked.
  • SWEET!
  • personally im a huge fan of halo and as long as they keep maken em then ill keep buyen
  • @ 88 yep your one of the nerds from halo 6 more years of repetativeness. you moron
  • FUCK YES
  • If they keep making them so good, i couldn't care less how many they make i'll buy them all.
  • Man, you people are really cool for being nonconformists. It's just awesome that you guys rip on a popular game for no reason. You know what, since you guys all said the franchise is being milked, it must be true. People on the internet never lie, or express opinions while perceiving them as facts. There's been 5 games in 8 years, that must be milking. Call of Duty isn't milking though because it has an annual release schedule, comics, and movie rights. I just can't believe that people are required to buy Halo games because they get the guillotine otherwise. /sarcasm To quote the wisdom of Zombieland, nut up, or shut up guys.
  • @ 12 Shut. The. Fuck. Up. Anyway, all great news! But how did they NOT know that Halo: Reach was going to be a prequel? Anyone who read the novels would have known that just from looking at the title :)
  • about Fucking time. Bungie is waving the cliffhanger in our faces by making ODST, and Reach, only to announce that Reach is their last Halo game. At least we know that this cliffhanger will get picked up
  • I don't get why people moan about more sequels. If you like the game get it, if you don't then don't get it. I seriously will never understand sequel hatred. Anyway, I'm not too fussed. I'm not buying ODST but am willing to play my friends copy. Halo is good, but I prefer other games.
  • I like how people are Bitching XD
  • So much negativity here, people seem to forget that bitching won't stop them from producing the new installments too the Halo series. I'm excited, no such thing as too much Halo. :]P
  • Unless I missed something, it doesn't seem like they're planning on making 6 more years worth of games, but just Halo content in general. Books, anime, comics, etc. Not that bad if you ask me. =/
  • I hate these lastest halo games yet i always get sucked in by the hype they create & end up buying them anyway. Halo ODST was weak, I beat legendary by myself in a day... And Bungie said it was meant to be harder? pfft.. The story aspect of halo has always interested me though, so i'm quite happy about their 6 year plan to give the story even more depth.
  • @#80 lol, it turns out that ocassionally people can use the internet for things other than flaming, but only sometimes! I better insult something to get the balance right again, wouldn't want to rip a hole in the universe by having 2 mellow comments in a row :/ PS3 suxorz teh big ti3m!!1!1! And all is well...
  • And people say Valve milk a series after 1 game...
  • L1E is my hero (no homo).
  • I am not a huge Halo nut but here is my opinion of the games thus far, Halo 3 = fun with friends, I also enjoyed the offline campaign. Halo Wars = Star Craft 2 style game play with nice graphics and amazing cinematic's, did not play online at all too time consuming and would have to deal with 12 year olds trying to talk like they have been around for a million years lol ;P Halo 3 ODST = Great game, story was cool, loved the Rookies attitude. Yeah Legendary was a little too easy IMO too #104, I kept checking if it reset to normal many times when playing lol. Firefight is pretty neat but might get old fast? just play Gears 2? maybe ;) Overall these games are decent imo, I will prob pick up Reach, just to play the offline campaign or with friends over co-op or something.
  • So tempted to join in the haters vs lovers debate... no, must stay out... but it's so tempting... but... opinions... not based on facts... so subjective.... I LOVE HALO IT'S SO FREAKING FUN!!! :D (oh no what have I done...)
  • 1 more things, you people aren't allowed to bash ODST because it had the Firefly voice actors, that alone was worth $60, and if you don't know what Firefly is, shame on you. >:(
  • I am interested in Reach it could be a great game however Bungie need to update the engine for it they can't continue to use the same one it's dated now.
  • btw If the Halo franchise needs to stop then why is no one crying for Metal Gear Solid,Final Fantasy,Mario,Zelda to be stopped as well ? their allowed to have multiple games but Halo isn't ?
  • ODST wasn't really worth $60 in my book. But it was my fault for buying it.
  • [INSERT GENERIC " I HATE HALO " / "MILKED FRANCHISE" /"ODST NOT WORTH THE MONEY" COMMENT HERE]
  • i liked odst but it dint have same effect as halo 3 it doenst have matchmakeing the ending wasint that dramatic halo 2's end was realy good master ceift wat areu doin on that ship .sir finishing this fight
  • 6 Years, they have 6 years planned. Shit, its gonna be a long time before Halo gets any better.
  • What's a halo?
  • So I was just reading my average news article, and after scrolling downward for 5 minutes I realized that the video game industry is turning to shit. Halo is going to be horrible for the next 6 years. Call of Duty will still be comprised of people who complain about everything that ISN'T Duty. And Gears of War will still lag. Damn, I hope some 3rd party developers have some good ideas.
  • I hate to get in on the Lover vs haters debate but I just can't pass it up. Yes, Halo is milking the franchise. They have 3 main games, a crappy RTS, an overpriced expansion, 5 or 6 books, 1 graphic novel, an anime series in the works, a movie in the works and another comic series. CoD may come out with a new game every year, but that is split between two companies (yes, I know that Halo Wars wasn't made by Bungie). And about saying how popular Halo is, CoD4 holds the current worl record for most unique users playing a multiplayer game. @113: Metal Gear Solid had 4 games spanning from PS1 to PS3. Final Fantasy I do not care about, but atleast they have stories that take more than 6 hours to beat (I'm looking at you ODST and HALO 3) and had all new characters and shit. I personally th
  • Call me a hater or "COD" fanboy, but I really hope they improve on the gameplay. It still feels like I'm playing a FPS on the Nintendo 64 (in terms of gameplay).
  • Yahoo! Looking forward to the next 6 years!
  • @23. to them it is. i really hope they do go a bit more with the chief after halo 3.
  • @120 But... but... the N64 had Goldeneye! D= Seriously though, I just hope this doesn't turn into a series of yearly games, just to cash in on a popular franchise. I thought Halo 3's story was a little disappointing (but a big improvement on Halo 2's campaign - though that's not saying much), and the fun's slowly slipping from multiplayer. I'm still a fan of the Halo games - I loved ODST, even if it was a little short - but let's hope they keep putting effort into the series. At least try to keep the idea of shooting aliens in the face fresh. =p
  • To be honest I say keep em coming I love the story of halo. Multiplayer...not so much, its full of douchebags.
  • 2.5 million people paid $60 for a 4 1/2 hour campaign and a tired and true Horde mode. Man... Don't call me a fanboy, just call me a realist. This was all the ammunition MS needed to start pumping out poor quality releases because they know you idiots will just keep buying them. And so the slow decline of video gaming moves on...
  • lol @ #41: "2.5 Million people can't be wrong." How many smokers are there worldwide?
  • First, GoW and Epic are completely different from Halo and Bungie. Epic is built on solid MP games, they are a PC developer through and through. GoW will stay a trilogy, it's not even their main universe (Unreal/UT). Bungie has made only a handful of games besides Halo, including Marathon, which is in the same universe as Halo. Besides All Fronts was DLC, best $20 I've ever spent, meanwhile Bungie's expansion that I paid $60 for now collects dust after a single run through...
  • Another (potentially 2) game, more action figures and another comic series? Fantastic!
  • @#47 hahahah dude what are you talking about, halo and cod are for the same age group just different styles of games. they both have almost equal blood gore and language, and they are both great games. this is gonna be an exciting 6 years :)
  • They're not milking this... there's still lots that can be done with Halo.. and this is a fan service... except for some reason this makes people mad.
  • To me.. Halo is like LOST(the TV show)... you either LOVE it.. or you hate it because you don't fully understand it. And I freaking LOVE LOST.
  • @127 among others: Why are you saying Gears of War is going to be a trilogy? Cliffy B has already said that he can see it going past a trilogy... http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3155484 "Gears is a trilogy? If we can keep making quality games that fans obviously love...then why would we have to stop at three?"
  • Gears trilogy, halo saga, whats the point anymore, all this means is more milking, so far we have Halo trilogy, ODST spin-off and strategy wars, all that is left is for master chief to be brought into lego form, I see the milking train arriving on time
  • Halo 2=best mutliplayer game of all time. I'm a HUGE COD fan but before COD all I played was Halo 2. Halo 3 was a disappointment and Halo ODST was a bigger disappoint, I doubt Reach will have a big WOW factor, but since Bungie established its top selling series the next 30 games could be shit and they'll still sell millions of copies. Game companies are learning this from Red Octane and Activsion with the GH series, the future is full of shitty sequels not leading off one another that don't ever die, I doubt we'll see a day were original game content is made anymore. Bungie is a good company but they're milking Halo, MAKE ANOTHER GOD DANG MARATHON or at least something else, christ.
  • If you don't like it don't play it - I'm sick of all the damn star wars games, the boring resident evil games, the same damn mario bs all the time - but I don't complain about it and I don't play them - so shut up and deal with it - I'm not a huge halo fan but I kinda enjoy the games - so again deal with it (all you complainers) - sheesh
  • Besides - we're all gamers and all we want to do is play games - good times :)
  • I thought it was pretty obvious that Reach was a Prequel considering what happened in the books and all
  • NHLMetalHead, u know that by being games it defines of ur choice of games and to bash certain ones, it's like the stupid "Blank" Movies, that refuse to stop even when they get horrible ratings and no money, people have to have an opinion and a say, like me I enjoy star wars games, I love Resident Evil Series, and grew up with Mario, Halo I can't stand ever since the 2nd one, but u know what oh well 1 voice can't stop a game from coming out, just like 1 voice couldn't stop a "Un-American" Government Offical from becoming President, it all happens weather u like it or not.
  • 6 more years of bad ass odsts, and then (probably) 6 more years of asskicking spartans
  • i havn't played ODST yet might check it out when i got some money spare
  • im sorry but halo is very overatedtried to play all of em and just thought its all been done before and halo 2 3 and odst are the same as halo 1 i think ill be skipping the next 6 years of halo
  • @#119: Metal Gear, Snakes Revenge, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions, Metal Gear Solid (GBC), Metal Gear Solid Integral, Metal Gear Solid 2, MGS2: Substance, MGS: The Twin Snakes, MGS3, Metal Gear Acid, MGS3: Subsistence, Metal Gear Acid 2, MGS: Portable Ops, MGS: Portable Ops Plus, MGS4, MGS: Touch, MGS: Rising, MGS: Peace Walker ...and more! Four games, eh?
  • All i want is a new Nylund book. and maybe an ODST book, could be interesting
  • Anyone know if a HALO 4 is going to be made?
  • I wouldn't be suprised if the conclusion to Master Chief and Cortana will just be a comic/novel...and where is Lego Halo? We know its only a matter of time. XD
  • I love people that bash Halo saying it's the same game over and over again. What is Call of Duty then? A new one comes out EVERY YEAR!! Different companies I know but still the same game.
  • from what i heard its microsoft milking halo not bungie, bungie wants to get out that is why reach is their last game. but of course if something is popular there has got to be some haters. you can doubt the campaign but the multiplayer of halo 2 and 3 was/is amazing. and odst was a great game, just not worth 60 dollars. for upcoming halo games not by bungie they will get a rent first, if i like them a purchase. but my prediction is reach will be bigger and better than halo 2 and 3, both campaign and multiplayer wise. i think they would want to leave with a bang
  • It's not the games I have an issue with so much ... it's the 'OMG teh Haloz' fanboys I have to put up with at work. As I said to someone when I was told that it was 'mandatory' to be excited about MW2, 'Looks like I'm going to have to disappoint a lot of people'. I don't mind when people like games that I don't, I just don't like being told that I have to like / am stupid for not liking something which doesn't appeal to me.
  • Meh.
  • @ #142: MGS Touch doesn't count. It's not an actual Metal Gear Solid game, it's one of those old school light gun shooters with a touch screen instead of a light gun. But it's not just another same ol' MGS game as your post implies as it's not the same thing as the other games at all. Same applies to the Acid games. They are turn-based strategy games played with cards, and not the usual gameplay seen in the main games. And for all we know it may also apply to Rising, considering the change of the game's tag to *groan* "Lightning Bolt Action." One could also argue that Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 don't apply either considering the statement you were trying to counter which said "Metal Gear Solid had 4 games spanning from PS1 to PS3." Now, spanning from PS1 to PS3... MG 1 and 2 obvious
  • Now, spanning from PS1 to PS3... MG 1 and 2 obviously don't count. They are outside the specified time frame, plus they really aren't Metal Gear SOLID games anyway, even if it is part of the same series. So after the extra versions with bonus content (basically GOTY type things) get discarded for being the same game as before, you found an extra three games: GBC Metal Gear Solid, Portable Ops, and Peace Walker. So that makes it 7 games. Yep, totally the same thing as Guitar Hero/Zelda/Mario/Final Fantasy/etc. *eye roll*
  • I can't wait for Guitar Hero: Halo. It's gonna be awesome, and oh, then there's Halo Pro Skating, Halo Wrestling, Halo: Race and others. Can't wait to add these to my existing Halo collection. Worms: Halo edition will be cool too. Miniature Master Chief worms yay.
  • 90% of the posts here are pointless, unless you put "in my opinion" after every "is" or "are". Anyway, I'm looking forward to more Halo games, cause I love the gameplay and the storyline. Can't get enough of it :-)
  • with reach i hope they stay on the same lines as the book n be very detailed 2 or i will not b happy coz thy killed it i hope not :)
  • Gonna trade in ODST today for £28 and I only paid £30 so it's a win-win situation! F**K the Reach BETA.
  • stupid fanboys stop hijack the thread
  • WOW I JUST THINK PEOPLE ARE REALLY MAD AT HALO FOR BEING THE BEST I MEAN I WAS THERE TOO LOOKING FOR A REASON TO HATE HALO AFTER GEARS RELEASED I THOUGHT WOW FINALLY A GAME BETTER THAN HALO UNTIL GEARS2 RELEASED WITH CRAPPY MULTIPLAYER AND SERVERS U JUST GOTTA THINK ABOUT WHAT BUNGIE DOES FOR THE FANS. NO OTHER CAN DO BETTER THAN THEY CAN AND NO ONE HAS PROVEN TO SO FAR, SO UNTIL HALO TURNS INTO A SHITTY GAME THAT DOESNT SASTISFY FANS ILL KEEP BUYING THEM.
  • #126 Well said Im not a fan of Halo so im obviously not happy. How can they plan that far ahead? PS: Im not gonna put up with anyone bagin out Metal Gear Solid or Final Fantasy. 2 of the greatest games ever
  • Oh great I cant wait -_- xD
  • Oh goody. :S I don't like Halo but I don't hate it. Does that make me a hater?
  • how the hell can they have 6 years planned out? a console generation can pass in that time and a lot can change in that time. i'm willing to bet that when the gamecube was released that no-one thought nintendo would focus on motion controls on the next console. shame on people who voice their dislike for a franchise that they thought was not as good or enjoyable as other games. how dare they have a opinion! resistance is futile.
  • Since Bungie won't be working after Halo: Reach, then it's definetly going to be different...or another Treyarch...Personally I'd like to see the series die with some dignity after Reach. With the success of Firefight I guess we'll see a new version obviously. Why not a game where you can play as the Covenant? The most we've gotten is the Arbiter and critics praised playing as him. Maybe Covenant vs UNSC multiplayer? Firefight as the Covenant?
  • @119, Hitchenson just owned you so hard :'D Still, how many people moan about too many MGS games? Or COD etc. All you haters stop wasting your lives and go play the games you like, leaving me and the rest of the world to play what we like...
  • Though I'm an anime fan halo anime doesn't do much for me TBH. I'm kinda bored of halo, I'm not gonna hate coz the online is really fun I just CBA with it now. May buy ODST for the maps though so I can actually play more than one game mode see if I can get back into it lol.
  • I'm actually glad to see this, I've always turned to Halo for my multiplayer fix.
  • anime sucks and people who watch that shit are gay and/or fat
  • People make me laugh. If you like Halo, buy Halo. If you don't, shut up. There's bound to be a game you love that someone else hates. Thats the greatness about videogames these days, the variety of games. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes, doesn't mean you're right or wrong. I buy GoW, CoD, Halo, etc. because I like shooting games. They are all different twists on the shooter genre. If there was one set way to make a game...wouldnt that totally blow? Variety is the spice of life baby.
  • seriously why is everyone arguing online. Grow up...If you don't like it don't play it or buy it. And don't comment on it because it makes you sound like a moron. I am not a huge Halo fan, but I will give them a shot.
  • I'm still so glad that the end of Halo 3 wasn't a cliffhanger.. now i cannot wait for Halo 4 :D.., dont give a crap about Reach and the others just want some story lines set after Halo 3.
  • @167, well done sir. Another member for team 'not a cyber douche'. We're still outnumbered though :P
  • to be honest, it's what you think about the games. Everyone is entitled to say the games are crap or great. And although, not played ODST yet, I thoroughly enjoyed the "Halo Trilogy" so to speak. Halo CE was brilliant, and I still play it online on my PC, although not owning Halo 2 for it. Halo 2 was even better, then bringing out Halo 3.
  • everyone says halo ODST is a expansion pack but for £35 its good because you get a new campaign and firefight...yes it would be better if you could search for a game of firefight but then its not as tactical or as fun if your not speaking to people thats why i only play nazi zombies on WAW either by myself or with 1 or 2 friends HALO=AWSOME
  • Tell you the truth that need a way to reinvent the series while keeping it halo. ODST was a good step but it was just reskinned really. I am a fan of both the CODS and HALO. I Think that Halo has been on the decline since HAlo 2. COD has been on the rise except for COD 3 and 5 have been getting better since 2. Any HAlo developers need to pull their shit together to get the next 6 years right.
  • #126 is bang on the money.
  • I feel you #7
  • Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. That is all.
  • at #22 GOW only has 2 games in the last 5 years. COD actually adds new things to their game and just doesnt put a new title on it. GH I agree with. Fable only has 1 game on 360? See how much you know?
  • And for all the people trying to say COD is the same thing every game. Have you ever paid attention to what kind of war you were actually fighting in? You mean to tell me Cod modern warfare is the same as Cod world at war where its about 50 years ago. Have you ever noticed like a 50 year difference or is that just me? I mean I know plenty of people that prefer COD 4 more then COD 5 because they are such different games.
  • I'll never understand fanboy hate. Why two people can't enjoy different games, or both. Then again, I have a job. My mama doesn't buy my games.
  • Lol at 12. Hes one of the 2.5 million.
  • Yes, GO Halo & Bungie I can't wait for it
  • its a good series, its not the greatest series of all time, but its good, HALO odst was short, but its fun. sadly most games nowadays are getting shorter, shorter and progressively more expensive. looking forward to new anime series and hopefully the new games will be a bit longer. all the great games have their issues, but we still love them, stop hating, if u hate one game someone is bound to hate ur favourite, that's how wars start lol
  • i wipe my ass with 60 dollars. people need to stop bitching about odst. hands down it was a good game. COD SUCKS MY ASS
  • finally we get to kill elites again HELL YA
  • yeeey
  • Hooray! Halo is one of the biggest games and EVERYONE would have to agree it's better than another 3 years of GH
  • loved halo ce. liked halo2. liked halo 3. loved odst. hated the multiplayer of all of them exept for halo ce. the campaign of halo saga intrested me very much. with halo2 and halo3 multiplayer i started hating halo multiplayer, you join a game, shoot at one guy an then press b. yawn. halo ce was something unique that evolved in something sad imo... now odst: loved so much the single player campaign and the co-op campaign. firefight exited me for just 5 minutes. then "yawn" again. i love to discover particulars in the story of a game and the "free bitchin' around" gameplay intrested me so much in odst that's why i like it. i'm gonna buy halo reach only for the campaign because i want to know how was the war on that planet, expecially in its last moments. the two books i read completed my i
  • I'm just glad to know that they are going to wrap up the cliffhanger at the end of Halo 3.
  • Awesome! Can't wait to be cheif again
  • I miss the Chief :(
  • If you dont like halo why moan about it? Just dont bloody buy it for gods sake. It's a bit sad that all alot of people can do is moan about a game that clearly lots of people enjoy and so what if they're doing it for money, isn't that what all games are for? Duh!
  • #82 has a gamerpic of Master Cheif, and whines about Halo, haha.
  • i love renting all these sequels for free. Thank god for Blockbuster's free game rental service.
  • @118 nice comments lol :D to true really
  • My only hope is that it turns to more like the first halo, the other 3 are good and I really like them but Halo Combat Evolved had a certain greatness that the others have not tapped into.
  • Halo single player is meh... I wonder if odst is like that? I mean I know on ebay the multiplayer disc alone is selling for as much as both discs together. So is the full priced expansion even worth the $60.00 bucks? I'm not trying to dog halo 3, I just think the expansion should have sold as such. Then again I haven't played the game and when I finally do I may be blown away. Doubt it though.
  • @#193 Amen to renting! You have to make a pretty damn good game for me to buy it. MW2 Is the only title I have bought this year.
  • @193 When the heck did this start? Last time I went they charged $8 for a 3 day rental!
  • @45 You're really not that smart are you. Halo =/= Nazis or a botched election
  • #5: I agree, we do need an edit button. So I can fix your mistakes.
  • @24 Gears is a Trilogy :) And Halo games dont actually seem to change there wasnt much stealth to ODST and the only difference was FireFight and that was really repeatative....
  • forget bungie and halo... im sorry it was a fun run....but jeeze! after halo wars i loss respect for you guys.. although ODST was good i still beat the game in under a few hours on legendary... ill just stick to the modern warfares and real shooter games...like GRAW and rainbow six....maybe some Army of two, but no more halo, no more bungie, sorry....just sayin....
  • also in ODST....where is the matchmaking section, are you just supposed to automatically have 3 other friends to play with...??!?!
  • @203 yeah, get some friends. Matchmaking in Firefight would be lame. Just like it was lame in Horde from Gears2, people always quit, thus ruining the game. Get some friends & actually plan it. I dont understand why everyone complains about the length of ODST, its a fucking expansion. They said that from the very beginning. Not to mention its a great deal if you either don't have all the maps, or don't like Halo 3's campaign. You can just sell your halo 3 copy for about 25 bucks. Everyone who bought it also got 10 bucks worth of free maps (at least. Some people could've gotten up to 30 bucks worth) and they got invited to Halo: reach BETA. If you hate halo, get the fuck off this page its obviously not for you. anyways: this is awesome. I wont be watching the anime nor reading
  • well look how many of you have played ODST? When i was on here when halo 3 was released you said it is getting old then halo wars was released you said you had enough no more halo games... Yet look at the amount of ODST's were sold... You lot will snap at halo reach and continue buying halo games in the future... Fact is there are 5 halo games at the moment only four of them are a FPS... Now lets look at the cod franchise... 6 games and yet nobody complains about them? 5 halo games in 7 years 6 cod games in 6 years Now before and between call of duty there was medal of honour which apart from the health system was EXACTLY the same, at least halo was and still is different and unique... Dont get me wrong i would rather play MODERN WARFARE any day but im proving a point so if your sic
  • so if your sick of halo you should be sick of COD...
  • So many comments apparently this is a big issue but to me i play games based on quality, not developers, consoles, genres, or franchises and if i don't like a game i just don't play it but i don't waste my time writing hateful comments about other peoples opinions.
  • Reach is going to be fucking sick! All you Halo haters go back to your Call of Duty, please. If Halo was so shitty, then it wouldn't have sold millions of copies.
  • I still think they could do another game after halo 3!! the chief can't seriously be floating around space... there was a planet he was about to crash into???
  • I think they need to wrap up the storyline with the chief then end it. I am a big Halo fan but most series tend to become a little dry if continued for too long. Don't want that to happen with Halo. Very few games have the ability to keep going successfully, game after game. (Resident Evil springs to mind.)
  • wicked, i have no problem wit hthat, no matter how much you like or dislike the game now or are finding it repetitive, i love games with an amazing story, who doesnt! A time lime and a whole novel of stories to play through and unlock is what every gamer should be happy for, you cant say they werent really well put together, i love a good story though as you can tell so i am a bit byist, the storyline makes a game for me...
  • 117 will never die ! remember my words !!!!!!!!
  • Not to give the halo haters an excuse, but after you play a series for 2 years consistently, it gets a little old and you don't want to play it anymore. I have turned into a halo hater because I've played my 2000 matches and the whole campaign multiple times and I'm sick of it. But for some reason people seem to be hypnotized by this game and JUST WON'T DROP IT. I'm just sick of hearing about it, and wish they would just stop making halo games and move on to something else.
  • Yes, 6 more years! I love Halo. Oh yeah, by the way #213, Halo Reach is gonna be a different type of game, as in, not just a straight up FPS. So, it won't just be the same.
  • @#150: Bollocks, they all count, they're all part of the Metal Gear franchise so why wouldn't they?
  • Just looking through these comments is painfull. I hate Halo, I Love Halo, I hate CoD, I love Cod, I love GoW, I hate GoW... I have just lost the will to live. Come on be a bit more original (granted some of you have made good points and the love/haters you know who you are) Personally I'm not a massive Halo Fanboy but if a game is good I'll play it, simple as. Halo 3 and ODST were fine so 6 more years of decent games is cool for me. But you won't find me getting all gooey eyed over the news or equally getting on my HaloHighHorse and bashing it! Play for fun and if it's not fun DON'T PLAY...Simple
  • People, stop saying they're milking Halo. All these CoD fanboy's don't realize that, compared to the 5 Halo games out (6 if you count Reach) There is already 6 Call of Duty's as well, with 2 more on the way (Black Ops and Sledgehammer Project). So you don't have any right to speak. OT: Can't wait for Reach :D XD
  • Halo 4 5 and 6 :) Hello from the future! lol
  • So I guess that's one way of annoucing Halo 4.
  • long live halo
  • god this is all so... convoluted. 2 years after the last reply and 5 after the original post. I thought ODST was a brilliant game. I rate how much I like a game based on quality; so whatever if they're "Milking it" etc. People have to get paid, you know. Anyway; ODST had an amazing story, told from 4 different viewpoints, which made it even better, and the vibe of the empty city, the music that was put into it, the voice acting was Terrific, and the characters actually felt like they were real. The game actually made me feel something towards it. It was like a playable movie. And even the fact that it was different from the other games made it that much better. To me, that's what defines a good game. Even though the campaign was short, I completed it and felt fulfilled, like I'd just eaten a full meal. And I'd say the same for Halo 2. I don't get why people don't feel that with this game. Multiplayer's not everything. Besides, this game was developed in only a year by a VERY small team; like 4 people or something like that so I'd be impressed it had as much as it did. But back to the point on the milking of the series; the same thing has been done for hundreds of years by artists of all types and just, everyone. Cars, for instance; most companies make new models of their cars every year, are you saying they should stop? Authors write multiple books of a series that is meant to have multiple books and even continue it, like the Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus series', should they stop? Movies, Star Wars, Art, Leonardo Da Vinci made art ("The Last Supper" and the "Mona Lisa" being his most famous two) and all kinds of things for decades and was revered for it, Music, Beethoven and Mozart kept writing symphonies almost till they died (or went deaf lol) ... Lil Wayne should probably stop but that's besides the point. It's a system that's been around for centuries; find something successful and keep it afloat. I'm sorry for my late post but a lot of these comments just made me kind of angry if I'm honest.
