In the wake of Microsoft acquiring Bethesda (via parent company ZeniMax Media), the company's Senior VP of PR & Marketing Pete Hines has moved to assuage fears that the studio will be changing, stating that "we're still Bethesda" and as such, the games its studios are working on will still be released under the Bethesda label.

"The world, our industry, and our company has changed a lot in the 34 years since Bethesda Softworks was first founded. Today, it changed again. And I know that brings up questions," Hines writes in an article regarding the Xbox deal. "But the key point is we’re still Bethesda. We’re still working on the same games we were yesterday, made by the same studios we’ve worked with for years, and those games will be published by us."

What this means in terms of Bethesda games remaining steadfastly Xbox and PC exclusive is unclear, but you'd think that Microsoft would be looking to get its money's worth from the $7.5 billion deal. One thing is certain, however -- any Bethesda releases will be day one additions to Xbox Game Pass, with Starfield confirmed as a day one Game Pass titles on console and PC.

Franchises like DOOM, Wolfenstein, Prey, Dishonored, Prey, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and The Evil Within will also appear as permanent fixtures on Xbox Game Pass. Hines also notes that Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda will also allow the company "to make even better games going forward."

He added: "Microsoft is an incredible partner and offers access to resources that will make us a better publisher and developer. We believe that means better games for you to play. Simply put - we believe that change is an important part of getting better. We believe in pushing ourselves to be better. To innovate. To grow."

Best of all, of course, Bethesda Softworks and Obsidian Entertainment (we've said it before, but it's worth repeating) both being under the same Xbox umbrella does mean that Fallout New Vegas 2 could happen. And Obsidian has even acknowledged as much on Twitter. Make it happen!

  • Lol Prey is listed twice in same sentence and the other article listed Wolfenstein twice. This on purpose?
  • I can't wait for quarantine to end so Todd Howard and Phil Spencer can both be on stage talking about Fallout while trying to out-cool eachother, with their graphic t-shirts and faux leather jackets and hands always in their pockets...... Have Phil Spencer and Todd Howard ever been seen in the same room together???
  • This is super massive now imagine if they were able to get Warner back then lol Xbox is coming in very strong
  • Oh... so the build engine is going to remain a buggy mess... thats a shame, had hope for big changes for a second.
  • I'm actually hoping it DOES cause change at Bethesda.
