Gotham Knights Will Have an "Entirely Redesigned" Combat System

WB Games Montréal has confirmed that Gotham Knights' combat system won't be the same as the Arkham games, in an interview with Gameradar.

“We have entirely redesigned the combat system in order for it to work well in co-op,” said Exec Producer Fleur Marty in the interview. “Of course, we're still a brawler, and some of the mechanics won't feel totally alien for people who played and enjoyed the Arkham series, but it is in many ways very different.”

Marty confirmed that all four playable characters - Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl and Red Hood - will level up even if you only choose to play as one character.

“Since the story progression is shared between all the characters, it also makes sense that you don't have to level them up from scratch every time you want to switch," Marty explained. “It also stays very coherent in terms of our narrative.”

“Since the other members of the Batman family are always present in some way in the background, while you're out in the world fighting crime or unravelling the mystery, they don't stay inactive. So it makes sense that they are also progressing and getting stronger.”

Creative Director Patrick Redding also re-confirmed that Gotham Knights is the beginning of a new, original Batman story and isn't connected with the Arkham universe.

“This is a universe many of us on the team have been invested in since we were old enough to read,” Redding said. “The real test of that was when we actually started working with DC and began talking about what we wanted for characters and storylines, and our specific interpretations. They encouraged us to double-down on our unique take.”

Following concerns that the game's co-op would result in it becoming a “games-as-a-service” title like Marvel's Avengers or Destiny 2, WB Games Montréal confirmed last year that the game could be played entirely solo and was designed for co-op, not as a live always-online game. • I honestly don't want to play as any of those characters.
  • I'm excited for this game and the co-op. I am interested in playing all of those characters. I have 5 Batman games, I still need to finish two or 3 of them. I like that studios are still trying new things.
  • Hoping this is good. Arkham Origins was solid enough, and I'm more interested in this than Suicide Squad.
  • Sucks it's only two player co-op when you have four different characters...
  • Makes $140 to $180 per day online work and i received $16894 in one month online acting from home. work simply one to a pair of hours in my spare time. Everybody will do that job and online makes extra cash by simply.

  • When they say it can be played solo, BUT it was designed for coop it's a bad sign. I hope they have seen how dead Avengers is right now if they are planning something like that.....
