In Balan Wonderworld, the upcoming platforming adventure from Sonic the Hedgehog creator Yuji Naka, you play as Emma and Leo in a show overseen by the eponymous Balan, costume-switching to acquire a range of abilities. In the full game, you'll have more than 80 costumes to change into, and in the new demo, we found 11 of them.

While the Sonic the Hedgehog DNA is evident in former Team Sonic designer Naoto Oshima's distinctive characters, the costume-changing shenanigans is something new and interesting, more akin to Mega Man or Dynamite Headdy. Each costume has its own unique ability to discover, and you'll be able to mix and match three at any one time.

From the Pounding Pig with its butt-bombing to the Jumping Jack with its leaping prowess, or the Footballer, stretchy Elastiplant and Soaring Sheep, there's a costume for every occasion, serving up all manner of metroidvania exploration possibilities. Then, there's the utterly useless Box Fox, which transforms into a box at random intervals.

It seems that not every one of the game's 80+ costumes is a winner, then. Check out our 12-minute Balan Wonderworld gameplay video below for a look at what you'll find in the demo when it goes live on 28th January, and in the full game when it launches on 26th March 2021.
