Disintegration Studio V1 Interactive is Set To Close Down

Richard Walker

Disintegration developer V1 Interactive has announced that it's closing down, with the first-person shooter and RTS hybrid being its one and only release. Founded by Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto and co-creator of the SOCOM series Michael Gutmann back in 2016, V1 revealed Disintegration in July 2019 before launching the game in June 2020.

Unfortunately, the game failed to find an audience, leading to V1 making the decision to shut down Disintegration's multiplayer servers in September 2020, just three months after launch.

"We are sad to inform you that V1 Interactive is officially closing," the studio announced in a tweet earlier today. "We want to thank all the talented people at V1, both past and present, who helped make the last 5 years wonderful. And a heartfelt thanks to the amazing community that supported us."

Game Director and President Lehto tweeted a follow-up, pertaining to the studio's employees now that it's set to close. "At V1, our priority has been to the wellbeing of our employees," he commented. “We've been transparent with them about the state of things for months and are making this decision now so they still have ample time to search for new jobs while being supported by our studio.”

Upon its launch we found Disintegration showed definite promise, so it's a shame to see V1 Interactive shut down so soon. We wish all of those affected the very best.

  • Well the gameplay was quite odd and for a niche audience which is not in demand very much especially on consoles these days. Hopefully all the developers are picked up elsewhere and are making even better games.
  • bad news for gamers who want variety of gameplay. more cookie-cutters incoming...
  • It failed because it was a multiplayer should have done a single player game only instead
