Ubisoft has confirmed that the third-person view shifts shown in the latest gameplay trailer for Far Cry 6, will actually feature in the game. There are “a few reasons” for the changes in perspective that will take place at certain moments, moving from first-person to third-person when protagonist Dani (who can be either male or female) enters Guerrilla Camps, for instance.

Cinematics will not only play out in third-person, in an effort to show more of Dani Rojas as a character, but during combat, the viewpoint will sometimes change to show off your customised character unleashing abilities. These include the new Supremo backpacks, which enable Dani to launch artillery and other stuff from the hardware on their back.

"In cinematics, [third-person] is something the team tried early on, and it felt surprisingly seamless," Narrative Director Navid Khavari told GameSpot. "It instantly felt like there was more of a connection to Dani's journey in the world, more of a connection to this epic story in Yara."

“Players will also be able to see their character customisations in these highly-realised story beats,” he added. "In Guerrilla Camps, this is also an opportunity for players to be able to see their fully customised character, everything from their backpack to their clothes." As such, Khavari notes that you'll feel more like a “member of the camp”, as you explore and interact with NPCs.

Once you depart the camp, the camera will move back to first-person, and for the majority of the game, you'll see the action through Dani's eyes. Moments during combat shift to third-person to show the impact of powerful special abilities, like the Supremo backpack's flamethrower, jetpack, or missile barrage.

"In the Supremo backpack moments during gameplay, the third-person transition is intended so players can see all of the backpack's effects, and better feel its impact in action," Khavari explained. Following Far Cry 5, which was steadfastly first-person and featured a silent protagonist known as ‘the Deputy’, Ubisoft Toronto is evidently trying to do things a bit differently for Far Cry 6.

Far Cry 6 launches for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC on 7th October 2021.
