Frontier Foundry (Frontier Developments' game publishing label) has announced FAR: Changing Tides, a sequel to 2019's FAR: Lone Sails, which it'll be publishing in a partnership with Swiss developer Okomotive. Due to launch later this year, the follow-up will trade sand dunes for ocean waves, albeit in an equally inhospitable world.

As protagonist 'Toe', you'll traverse a “drowned landscape” while contending with slim odds of survival. Upon locating an abandoned ship, Toe will embark upon a journey to find safety and freedom beyond the horizon, seeking answers to what became of their home.

“The reception to FAR: Lone Sails was humbling, to know that people felt the same passion as we do about that world inspired us to continue to build on it with Changing Tides,” said Lead Designer, Don Schmocker. “We knew we wanted to tell a different, but complementary tale, one which would be familiar to fans but fresh and exciting.”

Featuring the same art style and meditative side-scrolling gameplay as FAR: Lone Sails, as well as a “haunting” soundtrack by composer Joel Schoch, FAR: Changing Tides will be coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC in late 2021. Check out the reveal trailer below.
