Microsoft has now launched Xbox Cloud Gaming on iOS and Windows 10 devices in open beta, available now to all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers.

On iPhone and iPad, players can use the Safari browser and head to xbox.com/play, which can then be added to the Home Screen, and will act almost like an official Xbox Game Pass app. Microsoft has implemented this as a way to circumvent Apple's app store policies, which previously blocked the launch of an official game streaming app like Xbox's.

From there, you can stream over one hundred games on Xbox Game Pass, either using built-in touch controls for dozens of games, or using an Xbox One controller. The Xbox Series X|S controller is also now supported following a recent iOS update.

The service is rolling out in beta on these devices for all users, following an invite-only test run that began in April. On top of the new rollout on iOS and Windows 10, Microsoft has also upgraded Xbox Cloud Gaming on all platforms, with games now running on custom Xbox Series X hardware, rather than Xbox One as it had previously. Streaming will still be capped at 1080p and 60FPS to ensure the highest quality of stream, but players should notice faster loading, better frame rates, and next-gen features.

We've given it a quick go this morning on an iPhone playing Hollow Knight, and while things look pretty crisp, we suffered some pretty bad input lag, even with some pretty fast internet. The service is still in beta right now, though, so it will likely only continue to improve going forward, especially once it arrives as an app on Smart TVs and standalone streaming devices.
