Remedy Celebrates 20 Years of Max Payne With a New Video Message

Richard Walker

Today marks the 20th anniversary of Remedy's original Max Payne game, first released on 23rd July 2001. To celebrate, writer and face of Max Payne, Sam Lake, and voice of Max Payne, James McCaffrey, have teamed up for a special anniversary message.

In the video, Lake decks himself out in the classic Max Payne Hawaiian shirt and leather jacket combo, complete with pained (payned?) expression, while alongside McCaffrey, thanks are given to the original development team, many of whom are no longer with the Finnish developer behind Control, and the first two Max Payne games.

“Thank you, and happy anniversary, to Rockstar Games, 3D Realms, Remedy Entertainment, and everyone who worked on the game!,” the YouTube blurb for the anniversary video reads. “And to all of Max's fans who played and loved the game these past 20 years.”

Most recently, 2012's Max Payne 3 (developed By Rockstar Games) saw the eponymous grizzled ex-cop working security detail for the wealthy Branco family in Brazil, following up his exploits in Max Payne and 2003's Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne for Xbox and PlayStation 2. Surely, a new chapter is long overdue?

  • Max Payne HD Trilogy when?
    Max Payne 4 WHEN?
  • MP3 Backwards Compatible
  • The first game was the best, followed by number 2.

As for 3 yeah it played like max payne but the narrative I felt didn’t fit into the universe at all. Felt hastily made just for the sake of it. (Cash grab)
  • Max Payne 3 was a good game it just had too many fucking cutscenes breaking up the gameplay
  • If only you could have skipped those cutscenes in MP3, lol.
