Revealed ages ago before being released first on PlayStation, Oddworld: Soulstorm is at last on its way to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, marking a long-awaited return for plucky Mudokon, Abe, and his fellow oppressed workers as they strive for freedom. As Abe, you'll need to lead a thousand of your Mudokon buddies to safety, or risk your species being wiped out.

“Explore massive cinematic scale and 2.9D environments filled with breathtaking visuals," the latest press release from developer Oddworld Inhabitants reads. “Scavenge for supplies, craft weapons, arm your followers, solve puzzles, and learn Abe's true destiny while safely delivering all of 1,000 followers to freedom. Failure means the eradication of his entire species.”

Featuring light RPG elements alongside its platforming, you can pickpocket enemies, loot lockers, rummage through trash cans, and locate hidden areas to dig up useful resources. Said resources can then be exchanged at vending machines for products, including recipes for crafting handy problem-solving tools and weapons to use against foes like gun-toting Sligs.

Boasting large ‘2.9D’ side-scrolling environments to explore across 15 hours of gameplay, a dark storyline with a “twisted” sense of humour, alternate endings based on how many Mudokons you manage to rescue, and two bonus playable levels to unlock, Oddworld: Soulstorm will be coming soon to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. A release date has yet to be confirmed.
