The Gunk, an upcoming alien exploration game from the developer of the SteamWorld series, has a new gameplay trailer to check out, alongside a December release date.

We've had our eyes on The Gunk since it was first revealed last year, and the new gameplay trailer shows off the gunk-covered planet's landscape, as well as huge structures from an alien civilisation. We also see Rani, the protagonist, hoovering up the titular black goo with an upgradable prosthetic known as The Pumpkin, which can be upgraded during the game

“When Rani removes the stranglehold of the gunk, you’ll see the ecosystem bounce back, which is extremely satisfying to watch. From a creative standpoint, the contrast of barren gunk zones transforming into flourishing havens were fun and inspiring for the team to work on,” explains game director Ulf Hartelius.

The Gunk will contain different biomes to explore, from rocky canyons to dense jungle, and you'll scan the environments to learn more about the world. It all sounds just a little bit Metroid Prime-y, which is an exciting prospect.

The Gunk will be available on day one on Xbox Game Pass, launching on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in December. You can check out the new trailer down below.
