GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition Gets Trailer and Screenshots, Launches Next Month

Matt Lorrigan

Rockstar Games has announced that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is coming to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S on 11th November, and we've got our first look at the remastered games.

You can check out the new trailer here, which shows off the old versions against the remastered games. Rockstar has gone for a clean, exaggerated style in keeping with the art style of those original games, and while it might split opinion, we think it looks pretty good. The developer has also completely rebuilt the lighting system, improved draw distance, enhanced tree and foliage details, and added high-resolution textures. You can see our screenshot gallery here.

Outside of the visuals, the three games - GTA III, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas - have all been updated with GTA V-style controls and targeting, improved mini-maps, weapon and radio station selection wheels, and the much-needed ability to instantly restart a failed mission. The games will also run at 4K / 60FPS on Xbox Series X.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is launching digitally on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC on 11th November 2021, with a physical release coming on 7th December 2021.

Finally, in a strange twist, Xbox players will be able to play Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition by itself through Xbox Game Pass at launch, but not the other two titles. It's unclear whether Rockstar will be selling the three games individually outside of this one offer.

  • Looks good. Can't wait for launch. These are classics and the best games of their time.
  • San Andreas on GamePass eh?
    That's good news!
Although the news the game will be £55 is a little upsetting.
  • @Roza not if you do the xbox rewards to your advantage..
Most I'm paying for this is £15 - £20 out of my own money for the digital versions.
  • @ch33zy takes too long to get anything off that. doing everything available every day for a month and I only got like £5
  • @roza Yeah it takes time at first, but it builds up quick if you stick with it. Used my rewards account to buy both me and my friend Black Ops Cold War, and then again to buy us both the WWZ Aftermath dlc.
  • @Roza Na man I get almost all points available and when including the bonuses each month, I get about 4.50 a week in points
.. along with game pass I havnt brought a game in literally years aha and still preordered every major release
  • Any news on if they’ll have achievements?
  • @three15 The achievements leaked last week I think. Each game has a full list of achievments.
  • This looks like a nice HD polish & some mod inspired upgrades. I know they talked about the GTA 5 style controls, I'm hoping that includes camera controls.

I'm hoping they will be sold individually so I can buy 3 & Vice City, while playing SA on gamepass.
  • Should be $29.99 for all three, but sadly it will be $60
  • I'm hoping with San Andreas going to GP day one that they'll offer the games individually. Realistically I only want GTA 3, but they were all fantastic games.
  • The first guy in this comments section is a comedian LOL.
  • Omg thank you. I was afraid nobody got the sarcasm.
