CD Projekt Acquires 'The Flame in the Flood' Developer The Molasses Flood

Polish developer and publisher CD Projekt, best known for The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, has announced the acquisition of US developer The Molasses Flood.

The Boston-based studio was founded in 2014 by ex-Bioshock, Halo, and Guitar Hero devs, and has since developed survival game The Flame in the Flood and village building-title Drake Hollow.

“We’re always on the lookout for teams who make games with heart,” says CD Projekt president Adam Kiciński. “The Molasses Flood share our passion for video game development, they’re experienced, quality-oriented, and have great technological insight. I’m convinced they will bring a lot of talent and determination to the Group.”

The Molasses Flood will keep its name and identity, and won't be merged with exisiting CD Projekt teams, but will be working closely with CD Projekt Red. The Boston-based studio will be working on an ambitious project based on one of CD Projekt's existing IP, with more details to be announced in the future.

“From the inception of The Molasses Flood, it was our goal to create games that touch and inspire people,” says studio head Forrest Dowling. “When CD Projekt approached us about the possibility of working together, we saw an incredible opportunity to reach a much wider audience through a collaboration with a company we love, creating games in worlds we love. We could not be more excited to continue our mission with the support of CD Projekt and their incredibly talented team.”

So, it seems that The Molasses Flood (great name) will be working on a new game in the world of either The Witcher or Cyberpunk 2077. We'll have more details once they are announced.
