Uncharted director Amy Hennig's new studio, Skydance New Media, has announced it has partnered with Marvel to create a new blockbuster action-adventure game, featuring an original story and take on the Marvel Universe.

Skydance New Media was formed as a new gaming division for movie studio Skydance Media back in 2019, with Uncharted 2 writer and director Amy Hennig at the helm. While Hennig has since served as a writer for Square Enix's upcoming game Forspoken, this Marvel game with be Skydance New Media's first project.

“I can’t imagine a better partner than Marvel for our first game,” said Skydance New Media president Hennig. “The Marvel Universe epitomizes all the action, mystery and thrills of the pulp adventure genre that I adore and lends itself perfectly to an interactive experience. It’s an honour to be able to tell an original story with all the humanity, complexity, and humour that makes Marvel characters so enduring and to enable our players to embody these heroes that they love.”

It's not been announced which Marvel property the developer will be adapting for this new video game, but we can likely write off the likes of The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Wolverine, and Spider-Man, given that those franchises are already being worked on by Square Enix and Insomniac Games. Maybe we'll get something more niche, like Moon Knight, or one of Marvel's slightly grittier properties, like Daredevil.

Skydance New Media has put together a team of developers with experience in AAA action and adventure games, and pulled in consultants from the world of film, TV, and comics too. The game will be developed for traditional platforms, as well as upcoming streaming platforms.

“Amy has been setting the bar for narrative adventure games for decades and we are happy to be collaborating with the talented and experienced New Media team at Skydance,” said Jay Ong, Executive Vice President & Head of Marvel Games. “Their ambition and vision for making innovative entertainment using beloved Marvel IP was obvious from our first meeting. We’re excited to share more with Marvel fans when the time is right.”
