Marvel's Avengers XP Boosters to Be Removed From the Game by the End of Today

Developer Crystal Dynamics has announced that paid XP Boosters for Marvel's Avengers are set to be removed by the end of today, following backlash from players. The studio had made a pre-release promise that such items would not be added to the game's Marketplace, which it went back on last month.

“We apologise for not responding sooner to your concerns about the addition of paid consumables in the Marketplace,” the developer stated in a tweet from its official Marvel's Avengers account. “We introduced them as an option for an evolving player base, and did not see them as pay-to-win since they don't offer power directly.”

Consequently, paid XP Booster consumables (including Hero's Catalysts and Fragment Extractors) will be removed from Marvel's Avengers later today, but any that you already own will remain usable, and you'll still be able to earn them as rewards through regular gameplay.

The backlash following the implementation of paid XP Boosters in the Marvel's Avengers in-game Marketplace also came off the back of changes to the game's XP system, making progression at higher levels considerably slower. The Marketplace in Marvel's Avengers will remain a place to only purchase cosmetic items.

In September, Crystal Dynamics shared its upcoming roadmap for Marvel's Avengers, which encompasses new events and MCU cosmetics.

  • So, what are they planning on doing to resolve the absolutely ludicrous amount of XP the game awards? I finished the main game with only 1 character above level 10, the rest were around level 5.
