Sherlock Holmes Chapter One Behind the Scenes Trailer Talks Story and Cinematics

Developer Frogwares has released a new Sherlock Holmes Chapter One trailer, offering another behind the scenes look at the game, ahead of release later this month. This latest video offers some detail on the game's cinematics, and the making of the story, in which a young Sherlock gets swept up in his first cases.

The narrative aims to portray Sherlock's formative years as a detective, offering insights into how he eventually became a flawed, destructive genius during his later adult years. Expect trauma, loss, and struggles with mental health, as Sherlock explores a Mediterranean island riddled with mystery, flexing his gifts as detective extraordinaire.

In addition to a new trailer, Frogwares has also addressed comments pertaining to the game looking like a AAA production. The developer wants to allay such claims, releasing the following statement:

“As we near the release SHCO, we’re seeing a lot of comments excited for the game which is such an amazing feeling,” Frogwares CEO Wael Amr writes. “But we also see a fair amount of comments comparing some of our stuff to much bigger and more expensive titles. We totally understand the demand for technically flawless games. However when a team of our calibre creates a game, we need to prioritise what matters most - an emotional experience that is hopefully bigger than the sum of its technical parts.”

Amr notes that the studio has avoided crunch during the making of Sherlock Holmes Chapter One, and the game has been priced at $45, in keeping with its production values and content. “This is still our biggest project yet in terms of size, gameplay time, new systems, open-world design and story,” Amr added. "And we’re extremely proud of what we’ve made. We hope you'll enjoy it too".

Sherlock Holmes Chapter One is set to launch for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC on 16th November (before heading to Xbox One and PS4 at a later date), with pre-orders granting access to a free copy of Sherlock Holmes Crimes & Punishments and additional in-game content.
