Skate 2 Servers are Shutting Down Just As The Game Becomes Back Compat on Xbox

EA has announced that the Skate 2 online servers will be shutting down next month.

Just moments after it was announced that the original Skate trilogy had been made backwards compatible on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, EA announced that the servers for Skate 2 would be shutting down on 10th December 2021. The announcement was even made in the same Twitter thread in which the official Skate account celebrated the games' additions to Xbox's backwards compatibility program. Talk about bad timing.

“Additionally, we’re providing a heads up that on December 10, 2021, we will be turning off the Skate 2 online servers for PlayStation and Xbox,” said the statement from EA. “It’s not an easy decision and not something we take lightly.”

So, EA continues to make slightly baffling decisions, but that's hardly a surprise these days. At the very least, if you saw the news that Skate 2 was being added to Xbox's back compat program yesterday, and wanted to go online, you've got just over three weeks to get your fill, before the servers are shut down. You can find more information via EA's official website here.
