Following the release of Battlefield 2042 last week, Fawzi Mesmar, Head of Design at developer DICE, has departed the studio. Mesmar worked on both Battlefield and Star Wars Battlefront as Head of Design since 2019, spearheading design on the likes of Battlefield V, Battlefield 2042, and Star Wars Battlefront II.
“It was an absolute pleasure to serve on the best design teams in the galaxy,” Mesmar wrote in an email to staff at DICE, as reported by VGC. ”The incredible design work that you do continues to inspire me every day. Thank you for putting some faith in me, I hope I didn’t disappoint."
The email states that Mesmar was made “an offer [he] couldn't refuse at another company”, that was happy to wait until Battlefield 2042 had been shipped. “It was super important to me to be here with the team as we achieve this historical milestone,” the email continues.
“While Oskar [Gabrielson, General Manager at DICE] and myself have been discussing my succession plans for some time – and it will be announced in due course – we opted to delay this communication till after launch to keep the focus – rightfully so – on the game we’ve been putting a monumental amount of effort on."
Battlefield 2042 launched via early access on 12th November to largely lukewarm reviews, including our own verdict here. DICE is currently in the process of rolling out updates for the game, to address key issues the UI, balancing, vehicles, and the core gunplay. Update 2 has rolled out today, with a third patch due in December.
Battlefield 2042 is available for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC.
