The next big Sonic the Hedgehog game looks increasingly likely to get a full reveal at The Game Awards later this week.
Most of the time, publishers and event organisers try to keep big reveals under wraps, but it seems that The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley and SEGA have agreed to tease this one, with plenty of back-and-forth on Twitter to suggest that we'll see everyone's favourite hedgehog there. One fan asked Keighley if he was a Sonic fan, in response to the news that The Game Awards would have at least four or five huge reveals. Keighley responded “Very much so!” followed by the eyes emoji, which is universally understood to mean “I'm hinting something!”
Since then, the Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account has publicly asked Keighley for an invite. And probably the biggest hint yet, was Keighley responding to a Sonic fan account saying “A Sonic Announcement has been teased for The Game Awards (December 9th)... Sonic Frontiers?” with an emphatic “yeah, baby, yeah!” in the form of an Austin Powers gif. Bloody hell, it's weird reporting on Twitter rumours sometimes…
Nonetheless, all of this seems to heavily suggest we'll get a reveal for the next big Sonic game in only a couple of days, with the title rumoured to be named Sonic Frontiers. The game has been officially announced, albeit with no name, and only the most minor teaser trailer, giving very little way. However, Sonic Frontiers (if that is its real name) will apparently lay the foundation for future Sonic games, the way Sonic Adventure did, according to producer Takashi Iizuka.
