PUBG custodian Krafton, Inc. has announced that PUBG: Battlegrounds will be moving to a free-to-play model from next month, heralding “a new era” for the battle royale game, with an optional premium account upgrade also available.

From January 2022, when PUBG goes F2P, all players will have a Basic Account, which can be upgraded to ‘Battlegrounds Plus’ for a one-time free of $12.99 (or your regional equivalent). This will grant access to additional features and items.

This includes access to PUBG: Battlegrounds' Ranked Mode and Custom Match functionality, as well as a bonus 1,300 G-Coin, Survival Masters XP + 100% boost, a Career Medal tab, and in-game items including the Captain’s Camo set, bundling a hat, camo mask, and camo gloves.

If you've already purchased and own PUBG: Battlegrounds, you'll get the PUBG Special Commemorative Pack, with an automatic account upgrade to Battlegrounds Plus, the Battle-Hardened costume skin set, the Shackle and Shanks Legacy Pan, and the Battle-Hardened Legacy nameplate.

PUBG: Battlegrounds will be transitioning to a free-to-play mode on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC from 12th January 2022, with a range of activities to celebrate the move in the pipeline. You can pre-register to play the F2P version of PUBG: Battlegrounds here.

  • What would have been cool is a fresh set of achievements for each new map. The game is FILLED with bots these days and it's just not the same game to play because of that.
