The time has finally come for PUBG: Battlegrounds (formerly PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds) to join the likes of Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Apex Legends, in moving to free-to-play.
The original battle royale's free access begins today, and launches alongside Update 15.2. As well as transitioning PUBG to the new free-to-play model, this update also adds in some new tactical gear, such as a drone for scouting out opposition or picking up gear, as well as a new EMT Kit, which gives tons of boosts to a players healing and revival abilities. There's also a fair few quality of life improvements, which you can check out in the patch notes here.
Everyone who plays PUBG for free will start of with a Basic account, allowing access to most of the game's content. However, a Battlegrounds Plus account is needed to take part in Ranked Mode, and to create custom matches. Luckily, any players who purchased PUBG ahead of the free-to-play transition will get an automatic upgrade to Battlegrounds Plus, along with some cosmetic rewards too.
You can check out the PUBG Free-To-Play launch trailer down below, as well as the Patch Report 15.2 video. Oh, and if you fancy watching Dan, Rich, and myself fail to get a Chicken Dinner in PUBG, you can check out that video here.
