Having been announced in June 2019, then given a spring 2022 release window,  LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has now been furnished with an April 2022 release date. Additionally, there's a new gameplay overview trailer, offering a look at new combat mechanics, the wide range of characters and classes, and more.

Covering events from all nine films in the Skywalker Saga, the upcoming game will enable you to choose any of the three trilogies to start with, before exploring the galaxy, stringing together combos, wielding a lightsaber, and using new blaster controls to aim and use cover. From a holoprojector galaxy map, you'll be able to chart your own course, unlocking new planets as you progress.

Space traversal will also include dogfighting against enemy starfighters, enabling you to pilot legendary Star Wars craft like X-wings, TIE fighters, and the Millennium Falcon. Exploration will enable you to collect Kyber Bricks to unlock new features and upgrades for character classes, which include Jedi, Hero, Dark Side, Villain, Scavenger, Scoundrel, Bounty Hunter, Astromech Droid, and Protocol Droid.

As for characters, there will be more than 300 to unlock and play as in free play mode (for a total of almost 500), including Luke, Leia, Rey, Kylo Ren, Darth Vader, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, Boba Fett, Darth Maul, Poe Dameron, and loads more. The game will also include voiced action and cut-scenes, with a ‘Mumble Mode’ also available, replacing voices with classic LEGO Stars Wars mumbling.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga launches for Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and PC on 5th April 2022, with pre-orders offering the Trooper Character Pack on day one (set to be available a month after launch as part of the Season Pass Character Collection), as well as the Classic Obi-Wan Kenobi playable character. Purchasing the physical Deluxe Edition of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will also net you an exclusive LEGO Star Wars ‘Luke Skywalker with Blue Milk’ minifigure.

  • Damn, looks very expansive. 50+ hours for completion?
  • Damn I was already hyped for this game, but that level just increased. This looks really good. I see the character packs we're getting, I hope that also ends up with some dlc based on that content, like Mandalorian.
  • Just in time for my birthday, neat :]
  • Interesting article about the development of the game
