Ubisoft's Failed Battle Royale Hyper Scape is Shutting Down

Matt Lorrigan

Ubisoft has announced that its forgotten battle royale game, Hyper Scape, will be shutting down this April.

“We have made the difficult decision to end development of Hyper Scape and shut the game down as of April 28th,” reads the official announcement. “We set out to create a vertical, close-quarters, and fast-paced shooter experience and we are extremely grateful to our community for joining us on our journey. We will be taking key learnings from this game into future products.”

Hyper Scape first launched back in August 2020, but didn't manage to capture the public's interest in the same way as other contenders, like Apex Legends or Call of Duty: Warzone. Hyper Scape did continue to get updated with new seasons until March 2021, when Season 3 launched, but we've barely heard anything about the game since.

Hyper Scape will be shutting down for good on 28th April 2022.

  • Sad outcome for a alright Battle Royale I actually enjoyed playing it back at it's prime and ever a year after that but it was definitely empty after a while
  • Is it any surprise, really? Battle Royales and Looter Shooters are some of the most over-saturated markets and when they're all built for you to play in perpetuity, there is only so much free time people have in their lives. And as creatures of habit, they resort to their go-to games that are commonly popular.

Kudos to those who dig those styles of games and are willing to try new ones, but for me, every time I see another one of these dump out of the assembly line, I just roll my eyes.
  • I'm a fan of the BR but never got around to playing this title. Possibly because of what Antidote says above.
