Dawn of the Monsters is a Kaiju-Sized Beat 'Em Up Coming to Xbox Next Month

WayForward has dropped a story trailer for upcoming beat 'em up Dawn of the Monsters, and announced that the game will be coming to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S next month.

Dawn of the Monsters begins in the year 2036, when giant creatures known as the Nephilim invade the earth. A global task force called DAWN is set up to stop them, and three decades later, humanity has created four gigantic guardians in order to fight back.

Megadon, the living volcano; Ganira, th e colossal crustacean; Aegis Prime, a super-human warrior; and Tempest Galahad, a massive mech. These will be the four playable characters in this old-school beat ‘em up. Imagine Streets of Rage, but your character’s foot takes up the entire street. The game looks really good in action as well, with a really distinct art style, which you can check out in the new trailer down below.

“It was personally important to me that Dawn of the Monsters not be viewed as a kaiju parody or a ‘b-movie monster spoof’ or anything like that,” said the game's creator, Alex Rushdy. “I really wanted to reflect the spirit and intent of the best craftsmen and storytellers in the kaiju and tokusatsu genre. To realize this we decided we needed to involve people who have worked on some of the most important and impactful kaiju media out there.”

“It was a dream come true for me. I never thought I’d one day be working with [Godzilla designer] Shinji Nishikawa and [Neon Genesis Evangelion artist] Yuji Kaida - two people responsible for some of the most striking images from my childhood!”

Dawn of the Monsters launches on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia, and PC in March 2022. You can watch the new story trailer for the game down below.

  • Oh yeah, that one.

I'm so jaded to giant monster games being promised then dropped into dev hell I'm shocked this one is actually happening. Not much for beat'em-ups but I'll give it a whirl.
