Activision has officially confirmed that this year's Call of Duty game is in development at Infinity Ward, the studio behind 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
Speaking in a press release following Activision Blizzard's most recent financial results, the company revealed that development on both 2022's Call of Duty: Warzone experience, and this year's new premium Call of Duty title, would be led by Infinity Ward.
“The team is working on the most ambitious plan in franchise history, with industry-leading innovation and a broadly appealing franchise setting,” said the statement.
That “broadly appealing franchise setting” is almost certainly the world of 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. A report from last year stated that 2022's Call of Duty would be a sequel to Modern Warfare, withCall of Duty: Warzone getting a new mapstuffed full of iconic locations from 2009's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Additionally, there will reportedly be a new third mode, combining PvE and PvP elements.
