GTA The Trilogy Remaster Sales 'Exceeded Expectations' Despite Launch Issues

Take-Two, parent company of GTA developer Rockstar, has reported strong sales of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition.

Speaking during the video game company's most recent financial results, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick pointed out that that the remastered trilogy had “significantly exceeding our commercial expectations”. Considering that GTA is one of gaming's biggest brands, its fair to assume that GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition sold exceptionally well in order to exceed Take-Two Interactive's expectations.

While Take-Two haven't announced exact sales numbers for the remasters, some clever maths from VGC reveals that the game may have nearly ten million copies, based on updated GTA V sales numbers, against updates sales numbers for the entire GTA franchise.

Considering the disappointing state in which the remastered GTA games launched, and the general public backlash that came with it, it's perhaps a bit surprising that the game has gone on to sell so well. Rockstar has continued to update the games post-launch, fixing technical issues and rolling out a cinematic camera, although it has been months since the last update.

  • I stopped playing San Andreas after about half an hour, it felt wrong on so many levels
  • They’re congratulating themselves for releasing a sub-par product, and they’re letting everyone know they’re quite happy that you’ll pay for it despite literally every gaming news outlet, reviewer, YouTuber, etc, saying it’s terrible. I don’t know what’s worse, that the larger market is apparently just fine with being sold crap, or that Take Two would be this brazen.
  • Only had one bug in SA and was able to get around it. Was nice replaying one of the games while ignoring the achievements.
  • Did myself a favor and didn't play San Andreas. Experiencing the GTA Double Pack over again was nice.
