Ubisoft is working on a new, smaller-scale Assassin's Creed game, which originally began life as an expansion to Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Bloomberg reports.

The game, which is currently code-named Rift and is set to star Basim, one of the supporting characters from Assassin's Creed Valhalla, was planned to be released as an expansion to the 2020 title. However, Rift is now reportedly planned to release as a standalone title, in order to fill out Ubisoft's “thin release schedule” ahead of the live-service Assassin's Creed Infinity title.

Unlike recent Assassin's Creed games, Rift won't feature a massive open-world or as many RPG mechanics, instead focusing on stealth gameplay. The game is currently due to release at the end of 2022, or could possibly get pushed to 2023. Assassin's Creed Infinity is reportedly set to release in 2024, and won't be a free-to-play title.
