Xbox boss man Phil Spencer has revealed his aspirations for sci-fi RPG adventure Starfield, his hopes for the game being that it become Bethesda's “most played game ever”, despite the game missing PlayStation.
The comments come as Xbox Game Pass and its crop of first-party titles celebrate various milestones, like Forza Horizon 5 racking up 18 million players since release (10 million within its first week) and Halo Infinite enjoying the most successful launch in franchise history. Similarly, Psychonauts 2 has had impressive player numbers.
“I love the Forza 5 and Halo stats…I love how many people played Psychonauts 2 vs. Psychonauts 1,” Spencer told Axios (via VGC). "So, when I look at the teams, when (Bethesda Game Studios Director) Todd (Howard) and I talk about Starfield, it’s: ‘How do we make sure this is the most-played Todd Howard game ever?’”
Starfield will be an Xbox console exclusive, launching for Xbox Series X|S and PC on 11th November 2022, and it'll be up against The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in the sales numbers stakes, Bethesda's 2011 Elder Scrolls chapter selling more than 30 million units to date. The difference is, Starfield will be released as a day one Xbox Game Pass title, which will give it a huge headstart.
As for when we'll be hearing more concrete details on Starfield, you can expect to learn more sometime this summer.
