Square Enix has announced Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition, a remaster of the iconic PlayStation 1 JRPG, coming to Xbox One in April.

Chrono Cross follows the story of Serge, a hero who falls into another world, and must discover the connection between himself and the future of his planet. The remaster sees the game's 3D models converted to HD, with brand new artwork and character designs by Nobuteru Yuuki, the game's original designer, new HD fonts, and a new background filter. All of these can be toggled off, however, if players want to experience the original visuals, including the original pixel fonts.

There's also refined background music, a new auto-battle function, and the ability to switch enemy encounters off. The biggest new addition, however, is the addition of Radical Dreamers, a previously Japanese-exclusive text-adventure released for the Super Famicom's Satellaview, which was released as a side-story to Chrono Trigger and sets up the story of Chrono Cross years before the release of the original game.

For players in Europe, this will be the first time that Chrono Cross has been officially released outside of Japan and North America. You can check out the trailer for the game down below.

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition launches on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on 7th April 2022.

  • Glad to see Square is releasing some new stuff on all consoles, and not skipping Xbox as they always seem to do.
  • This is beyond awesome. I actually never finished this when I was younger. I remember I got to a boss I was too weak to beat, and there was a save point just before the boss, but after a door that couldn't be re-opened, and there were no enemies to fight. Completely locked me out of progressing and I never tried it again.
  • I remember this being a 10/10 on gamespot.com but the later said they rated it too high.
  • More JRPG goodness on Xbox. You love to see it. :) I loved Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross growing up. It'll be a pleasure to relive the nostalgia with this excellent game.
  • Glad to relive my childhood yet again. We just need legend of dragoon remastered....
  • I am excited but not excited. Chrono Cross is not that good, but ima still get it for the cheeves. With Square also anouncing a remaster of Live a Live I think we are one step closer to a 2.5D HD Chrono Trigger.
