Disney and Gameloft have announced Disney Speedstorm, a free-to-play racer coming to consoles and PC later this year.
Developed by the team behind Gameloft's Asphalt series, Disney Speedstorm will see you racing and battling on tracks inspired by Disney and Pixar films, playing as racers such as Mickey Mouse, Mulan, Sully, Donald Duck, and Captain Jack Sparrow, among others.
Each racer has their own unique abilities, as well as ultimate skills which can be activated to turn the tide of the race. As a free-to-play title, Disney Speedstorm will be regularly updated in new seasons, with new racers, karts, and stages added. The game will also include solo play, as well split-screen and online multiplayer across all platforms.
“To work on a dream project like Disney Speedstorm, we are driven to create a game that feels like home for Disney and Pixar fans but is also unique to the arcade-racing genre. The gameplay mechanics, the racer abilities and the location design were all tailored to serve our vision of a fast and gripping competitive experience.” said Gameloft Barcelona VP Alexandru Adam. “We can’t wait to share this vision with players around the globe.”
This isn't the first time Disney has shown interest in entering the kart racing space. Last year, new details were revealed about Epic Disney Racers, an Epic Mickey spin-off title that was in development, but never made it to release.
Disney Speedstorm is launching for free on consoles and PC later this year, and you can check out the announcement trailers down below. The Nintendo trailer gives more footage and details, while the Disney trailer gives us a better look at the higher-end console visuals.
