Indie developer Astral Clocktower Studios has dropped the first gameplay trailer for Kristala, a dark fantasy action-RPG coming to Xbox.

Putting you in the role of a feline warrior, you must complete the Raksaka Proving, and master the six magical specialities of the ancient Sacred Kristal. Along the way, you'll have to discover the root of the curse that has befallen the planet of Ailur and mutated its normally-peaceful creatures into dangerous monsters.

The game is a self-described Souls-like, which should come as no surprise given the studio's name is one big Bloodborne reference. Kristala has been dubbed ‘Cat Souls’ by players who have tried early builds at conventions, but the developer wants the game's unique style and rich lore to draw in players as well.

“It’s incredibly important to us that Kristala make its own statement,” says studio sounder and producer Alexis Brutman. “We don’t want it to be just another Soulslike game that regurgitates the same expected art style and gameplay mechanics, but rather one that welcomes new players—players who maybe don’t typically gravitate towards Soulslike titles—into the genre.”

The final game will have six different playable clans of feline warriors to choose from, each with their own magical specialities and combat strengths, as well as three starting classes for each clan. You can check out the early gameplay trailer down below.

Kristala is coming soon to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
