A team of former Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 2: Wild Hunt developers have today announced the founding of new startup studio, Rebel Wolves, its first project set to be a game that aims to “revolutionise the RPG genre”.

The Witcher 3 Game Director and Cyberpunk 2077 Head of Production, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, heads up the studio, which lists veterans who've worked on Shadow Warrior 2, The Witcher series, Thronebreaker, and Cyberpunk 2077 among its team members.

According to the studio's announcement press release, Rebel Wolves is “built on the foundations of fairness, teamwork, and openness,” and is “unified by the mission of putting the team first—ALWAYS…” The developer's mission statement adds that “happy people create great games,” and notes that its first game will be an evolution of the cRPG, a “AAA dark fantasy” created using Unreal Engine 5.

“For all of us here at Rebel Wolves, video games were always something we felt destined to do—something ingrained in our DNA,” writes CEO and Game Director, Tomaszkiewicz. “Personally, I couldn't be happier to have banded together with friends who share this passion. We’re developing a video game we'd like to play in a way that games should be made. We want to evolve the cRPG genre by creating unforgettable stories and stirring deep emotions, all while working as a tightly knit team united by a shared goal and ambition.”

He adds: “Collectively, we envision Rebel Wolves as a place where experienced game developers can reignite their passion, where they can focus on their craft and pour their love into an amazing, ambitious title. We want to stay small and agile—a place where people know and care for each other.”

Rebel Wolves is formed by Design Director Daniel Sadowski (The Witcher 1, Nitreal Games, Growing Up), Narrative Director and Main Writer Jakub Szamałek (The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Thronebreaker), Animation Director Tamara Zawada (The Witcher 3, Shadow Warrior 2, Capcom Vancouver), Art Director Bartłomiej Gaweł (The Witcher 1-3), CFO Michał Boryka, and Studio Head Robert Murzynowski. • “Built on the foundations of fairness, teamwork, and openness,” and is “unified by the mission of putting the team first—ALWAYS…” The developer's mission statement adds that “happy people create great games,” - I do believe they are correct! This is gonna rock. I'd pre order this without even knowing what it's called.
  • Maybe I'm just too much a cynic, but every upstart pub/dev company that comes from a well recognized pub/dev company all say the same PR speak drivel.

    "The people matter"
    "The games come first"
"We're going to revolutionize the industry"
"Jesus H. himself will come to us for counsel."

They'll do nothing different, and in a year or two, they'll shutter their doors closed or get absorbed by a juggernaut pub.
