Developer Velan Studios has announced that Knockout City will be going free-to-play soon, as the multiplayer ‘dodgebrawl’ title enters Year 2, following the upcoming Season 5: Greatest Hits wrapping up.
Velan will self-publish Knockout City from Season 6 onwards, and as the developer prepares to make the game F2P, Season 5 will boast “a little less content” than previous seasons. During its first year, however, the studio notes that Knockout City has received 32 different Playlists, nine maps, six Special Balls, and more than 1,200 customisations, features, and more.
For Season 5: Greatest Hits, Superpowers!, Chain Reaction, and Basketbrawl will return to Knockout City, alongside “some surprises”, new customisation items, new special event, and other exclusive unlockables, as well as a new season of League Play. And once Season 5 has come to a close, the game will enter Year 2 and shed its price tag.
“With that being said, we do want to take a moment to thank our day one fans for purchasing Knockout City and supporting us from the very beginning,” Velan states in a blog post. “Your dedication and loyalty motivates us everyday to continue to build our world, and we couldn’t have gotten this far without you.”
Anyone who paid for Knockout City prior to it going free-to-play will be given a Season 6 Loyalty Bundle, which includes exclusive legendary cosmetics, XP boosts, and 2,000 Holobux to spend in-game. Velan also offered its thanks to the EA Originals label for helping to launch Knockout City in May 2021, but once the game commences Year 2, EA will cease to be involved.
