Widely regarded as one of the best Fallout games, Fallout: New Vegas has remained a one-off since its launch in 2010. But, that could be set to chance, if rumours swirling about a possible New Vegas 2, are to be believed.

“This is very early, but people have begun to have talks and say these words in sentences, and these words are ‘Obsidian’ and ‘New Vegas 2’,” VentureBeat journo Jeff Grubb said during his latest Grubbsnax show for Giant Bomb (transcribed by VGC).

“We're talking years and years away,” Grubb added. “There's at least an interest and conversations happening about making something like that a reality… A lot of people at Microsoft think that this could work and there’s a lot of interest to make it happen."

Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart has expressed interest in a Fallout: New Vegas sequel in the past, stating back in 2013 that the studio would “love” to work on  follow-up. “It would be awesome,” he remarked.

Should Fallout: New Vegas 2 ever see the light of day - and indeed, these first rumblings of possible internal conversations are encouraging - then it would presumably be an Xbox console exclusive, due to Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda parent company ZeniMax Media in September 2020, which includes Obsidian. Fingers crossed that Xbox rolls the dice on this one.

  • Think most fallout fans have hoped for this ever since Microsoft bought zenimax. Hopefully it's true
  • If true, Obsidian could pop off of Outer Worlds 2 and go straight into NV2 development full force
  • @t800 doubt they would since Outer Worlds is their personal baby no reason to drop a great series just to help someone else's series get back on track
  • no.
  • @Scar I meant when they were finished with OW2 they could pivot work to NV2, not drop the OW franchise entirely :|
  • I remember a friend having issues with their save games. Never experienced it myself. Wouldn't mind if they made this one co-op. I could see that happening.
  • @t800 ph, what it sounded like was drop current development on OW2 anf go straight into FNV2
