Atari has announced Kombinera, a brand new puzzle platformer coming to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

Kombinera sees players attempting to guide multiple coloured balls through puzzling stages. Each colour of ball comes with its own special ability, but all of the balls in a level move together in sync, with tricky obstacles and spikey death walls to avoid. A level is completed when all of the balls in a stage are combined together into a single ball.

“Kombinera is a really fun project for Atari because it’s a modern game that anyone can play and enjoy on today’s platforms, but it also feels like a pick-up-and-play Atari classic,” said Atari CEO Wade Rosen. “And that’s really what our mission is - bringing high-quality gaming experiences to players while staying true to Atari’s roots.”

The game looks pretty promising, with a clever but simple puzzle mechanic, and a nice neon art style which makes it look clean and modern, but retro at the same time.

“Kombinera is truly the product of a combined effort and the desire to create something different from the pack,” said studio director at developer Graphite Lab, Matt Raithel. “Juicy animation, clever storytelling, and memorable puzzles were all made better through collaboration with Atari's creative team.”

You can check out the Kombinera announcement trailer down below. Kombinera is launching on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Atari VCS, and mobile in April 2022.
